Ordering Bedsides: Stake Pockets vs. No Stake Pocket Hole
I'm placing an order from Mar-K for some new bedsides today, and I'm stuck on whether I should order the original version or the version with the pockets capped.
What's the advantage of not having stake pocket holes? Is it purely aesthetic? Does it substantially prevent corrosion? Any insight would be appreciated. |

I got mine without the holes. Mar-k makes a nice product!

Made my own bedsides...no stake holes. Just depends on how you want it to look. Any water running into the stake hole would just run right out of the bottom of the pocket.

I've always had trucks with the original bed side panels, and never used the stake holes for anything.

Re: Ordering Bedsides: Stake Pockets vs. No Stake Pocket Hole
The stake holes in any pickup bed are there to put side racks in to haul something like a big load of firewood or a load of pumpkins to market.
Most of us who customize our trucks remove them anyhow so if it's a custom I'd go without and if it is to be a restored or pretty close to restored rig I'd go with the stake pockets to keep that showroom stock look.

I chose to keep my stake pocket holes, so I can use them for sideboards. But, to keep this rust problem from reoccurring I redesigned my rear cross sill so that the stake pockets now drain straight down.

Re: Ordering Bedsides: Stake Pockets vs. No Stake Pocket Hole
Thanks guys. I kept them just in case I decide to use them for something down the road. I figured I can modify the bottoms of the pockets if I felt like they don't drain adequately.
