56 3600 SBC/4WD Trans Question
Hey guys,
I have a 383 stroker I built from a 73 vette's 350. I am going to do a 4WD conversion on my truck and I already have an np205 transfer case. I will most likely be running Dana 44 in the front and corporate 12 in the rear. 383 will be putting out about 400 hp and 450 ft lbs of torque. I am looking for a 5-speed manual w/ overdrive. I heard good things about the NV4500 and I know it hooks up with the SBC and np205, but I also believe it is a low-geared slow-shifting truck tranny? Mainly this truck is going to be powerful, the 4WD conversion is only for snowy winters. I need the overdrive for 3 hours of daily highway/country road commuting and I would like a sportier transmission. I was looking for more of something like the Tremec TKO, but I don't believe it will work with the np205. Any ideas? |

Re: 56 3600 SBC/4WD Trans Question
I have a NV4500 I plan to pair up with NP205 on my build, but since it is a long way from running I can't speak to how it will drive. You may get more responses posting in the 4x4 subforum.

Re: 56 3600 SBC/4WD Trans Question
I have decided to go with a TKO 500 trans. I will be using a divorced np205 from a dodge truck. Now my only question is a crossmember for the transmission. The PO must have cut out the old trans crossmember as it is missing from my truck. Anyone know where I can get a bolt-on or weld-on trans crossmember thats compatible with the Tremec transmission?

Good advice. I will be doing a bunch of fabrication, I just figure I would see if anything was out there.
