bench seat

I'm looking to put a bench seat in my '49 3100.
Someone on here posted a thread about modifying the seat mounts on a bench seat by moving them about 2" on each side so the seat would fit. I've tried every possible search on here & I can't find the info.
Anyone remember this thread and where I can find it?
Thanks.

Re: bench seat

That's the one...there are a couple more but not as detailed. If you have questions just let me know, I did it this weekend in my '50. There are probably many ways to skin the cat, Cubby's way is great but he also put in a flush pan inside the seat surround. If you don't do that, your new bench seat risers will need to have spacers under the front, or you can do what I did...bolt them to the existing slider bracket and eliminate the front brace. I welded nuts inside the frame also for some reason, must be that I like doing things the hard way!

There are some photos here: http://imgur.com/a/9u5pq

Re: bench seat

Not sure except that he wanted to find about putting a later bench in an AD He probably figured it out as the original post in the thread was 11 months ago.

The administrators on the Hamb deleted or moved a lot of threads when they redid it a few months ago so that probably isn't the only link that is lost.

Re: bench seat

Hussey, when I responded to the original comment, the link I posted showed the modification of a later model bench seat to fit into an AD truck. Not sure what year truck the seat came from but I know it was a Chevy truck and I think in the '84 year range. I have been looking and looking and cannot find it anywhere. It was from one of these truck forums. Also on that link was the modification of an AD seat to allow it to fold forward. AV8TR33337 agreed the link was the one so maybe he remembers more than I.

I ask HAMB if they could help me with what they did with it. It was on a tech topic and the author was Chubby something. Hacks me off big time that this thread was moved/destroyed of whatever. There was some good stuff on there. Clay

Re: bench seat

Yes, I think a lot of good info go lost on the HAMB in the past year becasue it wasn't considered "traditional".

Re: bench seat

I'm not sure how easy you guys in the states will find these but a rear set out of a Alfa Romeo 156, fit a treat.

A bit of tweaking of the bottom wire frame to get the curve right. Had them in 2 months now, very comfy.

Re: bench seat

I just got a single cab regular size chevy truck seat around 91-92 model and set it inside my ad. fits like a glove. I was skeptical of this seat at first. thought it was to long. nope ,fits good. but I did remove the factory metal seat surround

Re: bench seat

Wondering if some late model Chevy truck buckets would fit/be proportional, such as from 2006-2008 or so?

Re: bench seat

I measured my 2003 donor while I was home last and with the original center console it was like 2" to wide just to close the doors. Without the console it could be made to fit, but it also has a thick back which will take away some leg room. Since I can't use it, it's for sale, along with the rest of the body and interior parts. (shameless pitch).

There was a thread here that had posts of different seats. Someone had a front seat from an Olds Cierra(I think). Looked good.

EDIT: Found it. Post #9, although I guess it doesn't have cup holders.

The Astro rear seats I see on Craig's list look nothing like yours.

Re: bench seat

That's out of a Astro. I have a very similar seat. It came out of a 97 Ext. Length Astro. To be fair, I haven't been able to find what trim package these came with, but then again haven't researched that hard. Keep in mind that if you want to keep the steering wheel in stock location these seats are a little off-set. According to a couple of posts on the forum regarding these seats, they don't exactly center up to the wheel, but I'm changing that when i get to it.
