Dash Radio?

I saw this truck on craigslist with what looks like a period correct vintage radio. Just wondering if anyone has seen one like this before or if the brand is known. I'd sure like to find one.

Re: Dash Radio?

Looks like it's out of a car, about the same vintage. Didn't know that they would fit, looks good thought.

Re: Dash Radio?

Well for anyone interested I think I narrowed it down to a 1941-1942 pontiac torpedo radio. Possibly the optional one since there seems to be more than one that was available. Still not sure though, there isn't a whole lot of info going around for those cars.

Re: Dash Radio?

I think 53 Randy and 53 292 (cousins?) pretty well nailed it down with maybe a year or two different on the year of the radio. As these trucks were almost always shipped to the dealers minus the radios a lot of guys got a radio out of the wrecking yard to put in their trucks either not too long after they bought it or if they were second or third owner. Our 54 that I learned to drive in had some ugly thing sticking through the dash with wheels to change the station and volume with rather than knobs and buttons.

You could get dealer installed radios when you bought the truck or later and from what I have seen they came in several different styles over the years.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
