Tucking rear bumper

Hello all! I have done some digging into the forum trying to get tips/pointers on how to pull the rear bumper closer to the bed. Have any of you done this, and if so, do you have any tips on how to do it?

Thanks, in advance, for any help!

Chris

Re: Tucking rear bumper

I did that to my truck. I think a couple options, just slide the brackets into the frame further and re drill, but the best I recall that will raise your bumper a little. Or you might notch the frame on the bottom and slide the brackets in as far as you want.

Re: Tucking rear bumper

I remember when I got my bumper and brackets, since I never paid attention to how the originals fit before I was like, no way is that bumper gonna sit that far back when done.

I tend to do things the long way but I cut the brackets, then put the bumper on jack stands exactly where I wanted it. Then bolted the brackets to the bumper and the frame. I cut a little too far so I had to build a bead to reach the distance.

Then weld fill with few passes.

With enough fill I took the grinder with flap discs and started shaping till the patch was gone.

Same with the side brackets. I cut, than slightly re-bent them to meet each other, then weld fill and grind.

I think I moved forward 2 inches and up about 1 1/4. Much closer now.

That looks really nice! Creative idea with the tail lights.

Re: Tucking rear bumper

Ive you are working on a 47-53 its way simpler than ^

There is another bumperbracket locatong hole already punched in the frame a couple inches up and forward of the original. Move the bumper up, drill 2 holes for the bolts on each side and wah-lah!
