235 head bolts single use?
Are the head bolts in a 235 single use bolts? Are they the stretch type, or can they be re-used?

They can be reused. They are not torque to yield. It is best that you do replace them if they are original to the engine.

I'd be hard pressed to buy new bolts for that engine unless I knew it had been apart many times or had obvious signs of corrosion or abuse. Those were tough old engines and they're not holding a lot of compression. JMO.

Back in those days no ever gave a thought to such a thing as "torque to yield". This is where current era technology is overkill when working on 50-60 year old equipment.

Re: 235 head bolts single use?
Those engines were designed to be overhauled by farmers in the barn. Just torque them to specs then during the first valve adjustment after running it for a while check them again. This assumes they are in good shape and the engine hasn't been sitting for 50 years with the valve covers off in the rain.

Sweet. They are in good shape.
I was just doing some research on it and couldn't find any info, or bolt kits for sale. |
