64 c10 battery question

I have a 1964 c10 with a 350 out of a 1970 chevelle in it. The battery has held a good charge up until I hooked up my lights, now if I run it with the lights on the battery dies. I can charge the battery and run the truck all day long but if I turn the lights on for a few minutes it drains the battery because when I cut the truck off and try to restart it the battery doesn't have the juice to start it. The battery, alternator, and voltage regulator are brand new and I didn't have this problem until I hooked up lights... What could be causing this problem?

You have a short in the wiring for your lights. Check voltage before you turn on the lights and check again with the lights on.

Have you checked to be sure that the alternator is putting out 13.8-14.2 volts? Just because the alternator and voltage regulator are new doesn't mean they are working correctly. It could also be a wiring issue.

BTW: a functional volt & ohmmeter can be bought from Harbor Freight for approx. $5-$8; its weakest point(s) is easily-broken test probes, which are actually broken more by improper storage than by use.
