Aluminum step in fleet side beds
Hey guys! This is my first post! I've been lurking around the forums for a little while, and learning a lot. I do custom hot rod interiors, and I'm building a 64 shop truck to use as a driver. My question is... who makes the aluminum steps I see cut into the side of some fleet side beds? I think they look really cool, but can't find any info on them. Can some one school me please? Thanks A lot!

Re: Aluminum step in fleet side beds
Chevrolet made them as an accessory for these trucks. You see them on EBay once in awhile . Geez ! Where did you get that picture of that old decrepit truck.....LOL, Wheres Aero when you need him

Re: Aluminum step in fleet side beds
Thanks for the info! I robbed the pic from another thread. Now knowing they were factory makes them even cooler to me. Dumb question... but what do you call them? Just trying to figure out what to search for. Thanks again

Re: Aluminum step in fleet side beds
I tried to contact the company below, never got a responce.
67-72 had the step accessory as well under a different part number. I can make installation templates if you are in need.

Re: Aluminum step in fleet side beds
Hi Everyone,
I was looking at putting a step on my Fleetside as well and had the following questions: How much weight can the step/side panel take? Is there a tendency for the top portion of the step/side panel of the bed to bow out as weight is put on the step? Does anyone have any experience with this? The reason that I am asking is that I am a big guy(6'2" and 280lbs) and not sure that the application can take the weight. Thanks for the help! |

Re: Aluminum step in fleet side beds
Bull,
I'm bigger than you and will add another fender brace to the opposite side of the step insert (I don't plan on using it much - for looks mostly) but if I do I don't wish to deflect the panel either. Jake Quote:
