Camaro front clip questions

Yes ,18x10" w/4" backspace in rear, 18x7" w/3.25 backspace in front, (should have been 4.5 bs but couldn't get them in these wheels,) here are some pics of the narrowing, the finished pics are not mine, but you can get the idea, I will have them done soon and plan on posting the process . I was told the Porterbuilt units Delmo uses are 60" wide ,hub to hub, the mustang 2 crossmembers are 56-7/8" wide and The late Camaro/Nova clip is 62-1/2"wide.

Front wheels are 15x7 with 4" back spacing. 215/70-15 tires on the front. Rear is 15x12 with 4" back spacing. 29x15.5-15 tires. Rear is a custom 4 link I made.

ZR2RICK,
When you narrowed the subfrane, did you check the clearance for the motor? I was thinking there was not 2" of extra room between the frame rails. What exhaust are you going to run?

Buggy, I am drooling over that tire set up you have. That pic looks so good I would debate putting the bed on for a while. Hahaha. You can't beat wide tires on these trucks! To be honest, when I saw your first photo, I was like...ehh that's a nice restored truck. But now seeing that you have 4 link, and coil overs...It looks great and looks like you set it up to handle well. Great set up.

I am using stock GM Trailblazer exh. manifolds they are very compact, and relocated the heater hose outlet and return on the water pump but ,yes there is plenty of room.

Spblack, its hard to tell without a cab and fender on it , some guys don't move the front axle centerline forward, and the front wheels will not be centered in the wheel well.
You can measure from the leading edge of the front cab mount to the leading edge of the front shock hole on the clip . Stock center line is 28-3/8". I put mine at 29-3/8" and it was centered up perfect IMO.

Since we are talking about moving the front end forward, I have herd 2" is best. I see you did 1", what's the general consensus about how far to move front centerline forward.

Another question, how did you guys figure out your rimland tire fitment? Did you take it to a tire shop to measure what would fit or just go buy what others have found to work. I'm guessing your going to have to buy new rims as finding the correct backspacing front and back is not going to work on Craigslist, eBay, etc...

I did my 58 the No Limit way, I think moving the centerline on 55-57 trucks are different as opposed to the 58-59 the front frame is 2" longer +wheel wells are different shape. best to hang a fender on it to be sure.

As for tire fitment I was going to just run stock 15" with 4" set back and then get the rims sized when I am done. The stock tires fit near perfect so I'll probable just keep them

The Coil Over Shocks you have what make are they and what is the spring rate you have on them?

Now your testing my memory....I put that truck together years ago.....I believe I used a 250LB spring rate and the shocks are QA1 brand. I also have a 1/8 steel floor in my bed so it makes it a little heavier and I tow with it so I went a little stiffer on the springs. It still rides nice though. I think anything between 200 and 250 is good for a task force truck. I do not think I have a pic of the inside of the bed to show the tubs but I just cut the original tubs apart and added what I needed to cover the tires.

I hung my front sheet metal on and determined what height it will be alighned at for daily driving,and ended up withe the wheelbase 3/4" longer than stock, it ends up being an eyeballed thing ,because of the rearward arch of the suspension the lower your ride height will be the more the wheel needs to come forward to look centered. here is a web site that helped me immensely in figuring out correct back spacing needed. It looks like that he is using a Mustang II front suspension kit? Will this work with the Camero/Trams An clip??
I imagine the same rule apply's to both or all applications. Am I correct in assuming this?

All applications apply. Looks like it's just a matter of understanding what your measuring and where the measurement comes from (hub face, center). The only variable is where the widest wheel will touch on the inside turn radius. They found that it was the upper control arm, but it's going to be different with other set ups. That's why I'm going to build that tool to check where it will hit all the way around for maximum size and then reduce for clearance. And see how big a wheel will fit and reduce from there if needed.

Thanks for measuring! This gives me a good idea on where to start. I will start with that, hang a fender and see what looks good. It's just going to be hard to eyeball because my garage is so narrow I won't be able to get much perspective from the side.

if that is the final height you'll be running it looks good to me, but you will want to set your ride height to get a good idea of how far forward to set it because the perception changes the further up into the wheelwell the wheel is.

That was with the a-arms leveled to simulate ride height at mock up and frame tacked.

Truck is blown apart right now, I may add some 2" drop spindles later , but I think it'll be just fine.
