cut coils
I have a 77 front end on my 62 and I used the original coils that I got with the front end only I have cut about 1.5 coils off of them. The front end also had coil springs around the shocks which I replaced for a set of cpp shocks that are the correct length for the amount of drop. The ride quality is horrible and I was wondering if it would be smoother if I installed a set of cpp 2.5 inch drop coils.

Drop coils are always better than cut. They have a progressive spring rate and will get stiffer as they "squish". Heating springs is a big no and cutting them is almost as bad in my book. Spend the hundred and change for a better and safer ride. You can always go with drop spindles if it needs to be lower and the spindles will work with your shorter shocks.

I can't vouch for the CPP coils as I went with ECE coils. My previous coils had been heated and it rode like crap. I installed 2" drop coils and the appropriate shocks, along with an 1 1/4 sway bar and it was an amazing change. I can't say enough about how much better it is.
