New Here..Have a few questions..

Hello..been lurking about for a couple of days looking for info that may be helpful to me in making a decision to buy a 65' 3/4 ton 4x4. I am a Chevy owner for life but know very little about these years of trucks.

I am going to look at it Friday. Owner says it has some rust which I can only imagine is significant cancer! Was told it runs, All original, good glass..

He said it had a 350 in it but i'm sure its a 283 and has a 4 spd transmission

Have some questions... What transmission will be in it? SM 420? And really unclear on what axles and ratios it may have.. Thanks for any help

Re: New Here..Have a few questions..

The two common 4 speeds found are the sm420 and the sm465...most likely its the sm420 as the sm 465 wasn't produced until 68 I believe. Engine casting #'s will be your best bet as to the engine. Read through the Faq's section at the top of the 60-66 page for the common rust areas. Good looking truck and let us know how it works out.

1200 is a good price! I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Sm 420, probably a t- 221 transfer case, Dana 44 front end. Don't worry about the rust, it's common an can be fixed. Most of the engines have been changed so check the numbers. Good luck!

$1200 for 4x4? Eat that sucker up!

I second the Sm420 and Rockwell T221. I'm rebuilding my Rockwell right now myself. They're a tough transfer case, but hard to find parts for. If you rebuild it buy the parts individually though, the rebuild kits are stupid high.

Good luck and welcome to the obsession!
