trans range sensor connector, glued in?

Hey folks,

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

Gathering bits and pieces for putting a 5.3 into my '66 c-10

My harness came missing the range sensor plugs, and now I see why.

Today in my travels amongst the ye olde junque yardes every 4l60e I found had the plugs glued in. What in the heck? I'm new to these late-model rigs, is this common?

Mine were. I was able to wiggle them lose with a little gentle persuasion from a flathead screwdriver. Someone posted though about using a heat gun to loosen up the glue which probably be the best bet.

yes use a heat gun or hair dryer, all you need is a little heat to loosen the sealant in the connector's, had many over the years at a GM shop, I think GM had tsb on this procedure, also if you need to reuse the switch or connectors, heat before reassembly

I used some brake cleaner on mine, let it sit a few and pulled out very easy.

Sounds like we have the same problem. I am putting a 6.0 in my 62 and my plug was cut out of the harness as well. I am curious which yards you were looking at in Portland. I too am on the lookout for a decent 4l60e.

Removing those connectors is one of the worst parts of an LS swap. haha.

the sherwood u-pull-it had an '01 silverado that i took the sensor and plug from. it was put out that morning and the engine was gone by the time i got there.
trans fluid looked like red milk so I passed on it.
I am beginning to think that looking for a 4l80e is a better bet.
Or rebuilding a Gen II "298mm" 4l60e into a compatible "300mm" unit.

this is one of the things my old man warned me about when i started talking about the LS swap. it'll be worth it though.

just about done with the harness modification for stand-alone
since my trans range sensor was cut, i'm having a hard time figuring out which BLK/wht wire goes to which plug.

one BLK/wht wire goes to a ground splice pack, and the other goes to blue PCM connector #32, range sensor input A.

which one goes to the large plug, and which to the small?

Hey Doug, just checked my harness. Blue 32 goes to the small white plug on my 05 harness.

I used the PNP C1 picture and the cross referenced the circuit numbers/ labels with the ECM pin-outs listed on lt1swap. I am going to use PNP C2 for my backup lights, safety switch. Hope that helps.

Can I run my back-up lamps straight from the F pin on the large plug, or will it need a relay?

I had my harness done and they removed that plug my back up light are run off the switch on thevsteering column

That's the way I have mine wired, no relay since the factory didn't have one.

Don't see why that would not work. I will dig out my multimeter and see what I can come up with.

Just did some testing with the multimeter and when I put the transmission in reverse it closes the circuit between pins C and F, so yes you can run the backup lights off that circuit. Don't see why a relay would be needed.
