The go underneath and hook onto the frame horns to put some spring into the equation so you're not actually lifting the weight of the tailgate when you go to close it.

ok, looks good. So, as it appears those wide pieces are the only thing that contact the body of the truck while the gate is open other than the two wire ropes that attach to the points on the edge of the door frame. . . is that correct?

So four contact points total, two on the bottom with the wide pieces sliding into the frame horns and the two wire rope pieces on each side.

That's what it looks like. I haven't pulled one before, but if there's a 'gotcha' in there somewhere I can't see it. I just went and looked at my civvy 79 and it is the same.

Excellent, from what I can tell removal is as simple (i'll regret using that word later) as
1) Removing the 4 fasteners of each wide tongue sliding into the frame horn. These appear accessible from underneath the rear of the car
2) Removing the wire rope contact points
3) carry away

You are welcome. It is a cold wet miserable day, I wondered if you were still going to get it. I forgot to ask you if this is a power or manual rear window or what your truck originally had. There will be a switch mounted on the dash to the left of the ashtray if it is a power rear window. If the one you are looking at is manual it won't really matter.

No, not going today, it's located outdoors and if I had to take it apart I didn't want to be soaked while doing so. This is a manual door, which is great, we're not looking for convenience as much as just something to cover the back. Mine currently has a truck tailgate, it's in the picture at the top. It's great for the summer and all that, but we don't have covered parking so I have to constantly manage a tarp on rainy days like we've had recently.

I would take a look at your mounting points before you do anything.
It looks like you have some rust around the door opening and the PO might have replaced the Blazer gate with a truck gate due to some problems with the original gate?
Would suck to go get all the parts only to discover that you can't mount them on yours without a bunch or repair work!

there is also a tension spring attached at the pivot point you will have to be carful of and make sure you get the pivot spring attachments off the donor if you get the chance or if yours doesn't have them. they look kind or like door striker posts on the body.

Was able to pickup a Blazer rear door with glass as well as a back seat and visors.

Score! Back seat looks to be in good condition, too. Were both of those off the cl truck you linked?

They were actually off another cl truck. The first guy was weird on the phone. The second truck (this one) the guy told me it had the glass and all that. He also wanted less. . . I have the listing if you want it. He's trying to get ride of the frame and rear end more than anything. He was a good fella. Backseat is in very good condition, not a scratch or tear. Very lucky there. Rear door glass doesn't want to roll up without assistance. I'll need to order new guide rails for it.

We were able to get the tailgate, backseat, and visors.

Thanks for tailgate write up .... My 1974 K5 the tail gate is rusted and the glass is in the floor board . I am afraid to try to fix it . I need tailgate SKIN , then I need a lot of inside parts ?? Not sure what is missing or broken . Looking for newer tailgate NOW !!

Well, currently I have a rust hole on the inside edge passenger floor plan. Once I patch that I plan on grinding down the superficial rust and Rhino lining the inside. That's most likely the long term plan for the flooring.

I do not plan on adding side panels or carpet. I would like it to be clean looking and would say that the Rhino lining will accomplish this task without over complicating it.

It will. A quality carpet kit from ACC with the good backing costs about the same at getting it all professionally lined, so I decided to go carpet on my green truck. I have a few rust spots to patch myself.

I think carpet looks better, especially for hiding wires and bolts and stuff. I was thinking we'd get this truck muddy from time to time and with the top off I thought carpet may get dirty quick if it were to rain. Over the years I would eventually like to put in dynamat (or similar) and carpet it, but not till after I have some fun.

My father has a torch and mig welder, i've never used either much but once it warms up i'm going to take this puppy up to Tennessee and he'll show me the welding ropes. After cleaning up that rust spot a nice Rhino lining will really make this truck look good on the inside. If I could get my dash lights working i'll be done in there.

My project this weekend is to strip off paint and rust from the inside of my tailgate and then prime it and paint the inner cover and the interior black. I got some of the larger parts for the window mechanism from pick n pull but had to order new seals and some new smaller bits n bobs for it etc from LMC. They should be here next week.
