Thanks! After reading that, i could get spindles from 73-87 and it will bolt in as long as i use the ball joints that match that year. What I'm confused about is that how do i know the spindle is off a truck with disc brakes? I was looking at a local auto store and they have spindles off a 78 2wd 3/4t truck

i believe all c20 after 71 have front disc

All the '71-'87 C20 and C30's have steel control arm bushings and disc brakes. Only the C10's had the rubber control arm bushings. Like I said earlier, I have not confirmed that the '71-'87 C20 lower ball joints will press into the '63-'66 lower control arms. That doesn't mean they won't, I just can not say for certain. Keep in mind that 90% of the front disc brake info on this forum is based on what works for a C10. So there may be a thing or two that is different.

Alright i figured out what I'm going to do and now need transmission help.
I'm going to get a crate 350 and going with 14 bolt 373 rears. Now i have the original 4 speed. what's the right tranny to put in? Will the 4 speed work?

the granny 4 with 373s will work fine just start out in 2nd gear

I have the same problem with my GMC 3/4 ton. Revs are a little over 4000 at 65, not good for cruising. I bought a donor '74 C10 to take the front disk crossmember and 12 bolt w/ 3.73 gear rear end. I'll also be running a camaro T5 trans w/ S10 tail piece.

I haven't put it all together yet, so can't say how it will all work. If you have no plans to be towing heavy stuff, switching to C10 parts is cheaper and easier. After selling all the parts I didn't use off the '74, I was up about $250.

Just my 2 cents. I have a 64 c20 with granny. Changed to 10 bolt 83 rear with 273 gears 5 lug actually makes 1st useable. On the front I got spindles from a 72 c10 to get discs and 5 lug. That didn't work. A arms are different on the c20. I think it was custom classic had a conversion spindle to go from c20 drum to c10 discs. They were reasonable compared to what I payed for the boneyard spindles.

I kept my support arms and needed conversion spindles to get to the c10 5 lug rotors. I was going the route of 72 c10 spindles and matching ball joints to get 5 lug and discs but they didn't work because of c20 support arms. The conversion spindles were very nice. I wish I knew about the problem earlier. Kinda lost track that mine was a 20 and I was on a roll. Figured I would save you some headaches.

If you will send me a PM on this board with the following information :

1. engine

2. tire diameter (ground to top of tire on rear)

3. transmission you are thinking of using (and current transmission)

4. your email address

5 current r/a ratio

I will email you a spread sheet that shows most transmissions, speed at 2000rpm, 3000, rpm, 4000rpm, usable torque to the ground for common rear axle ratios.

This will keep you from making changes that do not work........before you spend money making the change. Kieth
