Family Bet
Haha Hey y'all,
As some of y'all know Good Guys Lonestar Nationals is Approaching, Well yesterday my step dad pulled his 69' Camaro out of the garage for some air. I Personally don't see much going for the car...i think it looks like all the others at Goodguys. So we made a Bet ! i bet him My truck Get more Attention at the show then his camaro...Just like she is (maybe some new wheels) but body and interior wise just the same as they are now.. So whats yalls take on this ? am i crazy to think this ? haha sorry i had to share!

Re: Family Bet
Thats a nice 69. Hope you did not bet much. Now once you get your truck done you'll be in the running.

Re: Family Bet
I hate to rain on your parade, but I would take some of that bet! A 69 Camaro is a Rock Star of Muscle Cars. I love my trucks but would take another 69 Camaro over a restored 60-66 Truck. The Patina trucks don't even get a glance from me, that's just how I roll-if it's not shiny I walk right on by.

Re: Family Bet
It will be a tie. Why? Well, the truck will gather attention from any "truck guy" who ever "drove one", "had one", "dad and grandad had one" or just plain loves classic trucks.
The Camaro will draw attention from the muscle car guys who love to burn rubber and go 0-60 fast. Patina is fine but will not win the Camro guys over for attention. Muscle is fine too, but won't get attention from the older guy who "used to drive a truck just like this one". Awesome truck and Camaro! Thumbs way up on both.

Re: Family Bet
Ok, I have to weigh in on this one. Being someone who has owned a 69 Camaro and someone who currently owns a 66 Suburban.
For me, it would be a tie as far as checking them out. I love both! As the guys said above the Camaro has the flash and shine, but the truck has the durablity and ruggedness. Loved driving them both, but I prefer my 66 Suburban over the 69 Camaro. It's just a lot more fun to drive and I actually get more attention in my 66. I do miss the Camaro though! Damn ex-wife! |

Re: Family Bet
Seems any "barn fresh" ride gets it's share of looks nowadays. Personally, I've seen enough mild customs and restored cars that only the super innovative or totally correct ones grab me. There is one thing though that separates a nice barn find from just another pile, and that is the "unmolested" factor. If at a glance I see a repaint inside or out, wrong wheels, wrong seat, chromed cowl extensions, etc., I just keep walking.
I say put the factory wheels and caps back on your truck, and you have a chance. |

Re: Family Bet
I've owned them both, classic Chevy trucks and 1st Gen Camaros. The 1969 (to me) is the best of the breed, and even though some folks think that they're over-played, there aren't many cars or trucks that will draw a crowd like a nice 1st Gen Camaro. I owned a '69 Z/28 back in the '80s, and even back then, it was super popular. It was yellow and loud, and the chicks loved that car.
Nothing against your truck, Mater, but I think Dad wins this bet. But in the end, your truck is still your favorite, and that's all that matters!

Re: Family Bet
Funny, I have had 2 '69 Camaro's (one fairly stock, on Pro-Touring build), a '65 C10 truck and have gotten comments on them at shows. Of all the cars/trucks I have owned, the one I have gotten the most attention, comments and such is our '64 Chevy II wagon. At the local show this weekend (660 cars/trucks registered) I won Best Wagon. First award I have won in over 15 years.

Re: Family Bet
So here goes a home town guys opinion.
I think more people would be like others have said, my grandpa had one or dad or uncle or? but they wouldnt go over and look it over like a hungry wolf like they would that Camaro. My dad took his 1964 crew cab C20 over there the first two years after he finished it and it couldnt even get an honorable mention. people walked by and looked at it like " how did he do that" but few stopped and really looked it over. I am all for you taking your truck bud; heck if I can, Ill bring mine. let's be realistic, most kids and some timers will ogle the Camaro...

Re: Family Bet
Yea, sorry but....
Nice truck, but more attention than a 69 Camaro? Is it too late to retract your bet?

Re: Family Bet
Drop the glove box, open a door, pop the hood and back the truck up 2 feet behind the Camaro. Watch as people come to check out the cattle guard, then see the door open and wonder and then see the glove box open and go around back to the other side. Flip the air cleaner cover over, put a model truck or something in the glove box, make it interesting and you will have more fly's on the honey than the everyday loaf of bread.

Re: Family Bet
Well I have never owned a '69 Camaro.. but if I ever did I'd tow it around with a slick looking older chevy truck.
I think this bet is Apples to Oranges my friend. I will say though, I would take either one over the OTHER brand truck or Pony.
