What back spacing on wide rear rims....
Just picked up a 64 chevy short fleetside and it came with the fat wheel tubs and i checked and i have 16 inches of tire clearance......I`m thinking a 15x12 rim with 7 or 8 inch back spacing maybe ????
The rim thats on there now is a 15x8 or 8 1/2 wide.....with a 5 inch back spacing..and i have 6 inches of clearance on the inside and about 1 1/2 clearance on the outside......sectional width on the tire is 10 inches... So watcha think and thank you for any help... |

Re: What back spacing on wide rear rims....
Rim back spacing will also have to be worked out with the tire you decide on. Tire with a fat side wall will need more back spacing.

Re: What back spacing on wide rear rims....
Be careful since tread width measurement specification may be the same or close from tire to tire in the same size and series, etc., the section width of tires in the same size and series vary greatly...I believe that was the point PGSigns was making. So, it is the section width of the tire you want to pay most attention to in your selection to determine backspacing, etc.
Something like this will help: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PHP-01201/

Re: What back spacing on wide rear rims....
This early pic showing my truck with 8.5 / 15 rims with 275/60/15 on all four corners, the rear had just about one finger width from fender lip to tire, lip was not rolled, about two inches from inside fender well, rims have 4.5 inch back space. Stock rear axle 6 lug.
