Re: Rusted roof repair
Ok LT1 and thank you. Shouldn't be hard since both sides of my skin over the doors are already detached due to rusting through. Lol

What size bit and do you drill all the way through?

Re: Rusted roof repair
I drill 1/8" and do not go through or you have to weld both sides. Harbor freight sells spot weld cutters for 5 bucks and they work great. You have to have finesse and only cut through the top skin, that's where the screwdrivers come in handy because they will pop the skin as soon as you get through the first layer.

Re: Rusted roof repair
Dumb question butt:
How do you get a screwdriver blade under the lip With a drip rail in the way?

Re: Rusted roof repair
Change of plans. Pulled the outer roof skin off and everything up front and on sides is wasted. Even my ceiling skin is bad in a 4x5 inch area. Luckily I found a complete donor roof including inner and outer roof skin and front eyebrow panel in good condition. BUT the donor is a 64 so I know the A-pillars and such won't work. Does anyone know why a 64 drip rail and roof wouldn't work for my 61?

We should do a rats nest in the roof poll, I see it's 3 for 3 now.

Re: Rusted roof repair
Yeah the old bench seat was missing much stuffing. I found the stuffing under the roof, behind the gauge cluster, and inside the heater blower assembly. It should turn out a very comfortable truck.

Re: Rusted roof repair
Also, the donor has a good BBW that I'm thinking about snagging. I do like the small window but what are y'all's thoughts? BBW better or more desirable?

Re: Rusted roof repair
I prefer the small back window. It offers a bit more privacy from the rear. Also, a good place to mount your accessory items, like a gun rack (for that true vintage look), coat hook (to hang your jean jacket and ball cap from), and an auxiliary speaker for your CB radio.
I never cared for the big window and cameo cabs because they were too open, and not 'cozy' enough. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I vote for the small window. |

Re: Rusted roof repair
I like the BBW, makes the truck worth more and now is the time to do it, whilst the roof and that panel are open and accessible.

Re: Rusted roof repair
I have yet to try it but I would think the roof panel would be the same. I agree that now would be the perfect time to do a big back window upgrade.

Re: Rusted roof repair
Good one Sp
I don't know why they don't make an inner panel too,if the outer is rusted out, the inner Is likely to be as well T I'm also thinking roof panels are the same 60-66.

Re: Rusted roof repair
Are you interested in a different cab? I looked at BBW AC cab in the TX panhandle a couple of years ago. I can't remember what year model it was though. I could call him if that's an option for you.

Re: Rusted roof repair
That's ok Jackson. I could go with the BBW cab that is here if mine is a lost cause. After much thought I decided that I like the small window. I'm weird I guess.

Not weird. The small is good in the Texas sun.
