Is this a flip kit?

I had a chance to take a picture of the rear leaf springs and this is what I've got. I'm assuming it's a flip kit. My truck sits really low which I like but is this good enough or should I consider doing something else. Also any way to tell how low it was done by the picture? Thanks

Not exactly.
Somone welded on a second set of "axle saddles" to your rearend.
I assume they are welded?

that would be what the leafs are sitting on? And is that o.k.?

they welded another perch on there. its allot cheaper if you have a capable welder that you are confident can handle 3/16", i did it on my buddies truck, assembled everything then set the pinion angle.

Ok so basically it was a cheap way out to lowering the back. It does hit kind of hard but I guess that's the way it is. I'm going to run 22"soon so I'm assuming it will ride even harder? Should I leave it alone or put money aside for some other set up?
I don't know to much about mechanics so thanks in advance

To add to what Keith said, that is a flip, but not done with a kit. The axle has been flipped which got you 5-6 inches of drop, but the person used a little different stuff than if you bought a commercially made "flip kit".

It gave the same amount of drop and does the same thing, just looks a bit different.

I did the exact same thing on my 78 stepside. I call it the Poor Boy Flip Kit or the 13 dollar drop. I spent 13 dollars rather than 75 by doing it myself.

i'd call it the smart boy flip not the poor boy flip.

I agree.
You just have to make sure the driveshaft is not too long after the flip.
Aftermarket flip kits move the rearend back (away from the trans.),... so the original driveshaft length will work,... AND to center the rear wheels in the wheel opening of the bedside.

That's how I have mine done but haven't welded it yet as I want to find out how much the kits move the axle back first so I can drill the perches beforehand. 2"?

i just drilled new holes in the perches an inch back welded up the stock holes.

The "hard hit" is from lack of suspension travel. You may need a C notch in the frame to get some of that back without the bang. Cutting the original saddles off may help too.

Thanks for all the responses. From my understanding the truck has been done for a few years already. Once I have the bigger rims on I can think about a c notch. Is that something very involved or fairly simple. And it seems my set up will work just fine

Judging by the nuts and bolts rough the bottom of the frame, as well as the welds near the outside corner of the bottom of the frame, it looks like you already have a c notch.

That's good to know. So basically it's safe to say that I should just leave it alone ?

i would leave it, some flip kits have a problem with a little slop but if that is welded on, its not moving.

I will definitely crawl underneath and take a few more pictures. Any angles in particular? Can't today because snowing like crazy but by tomorrow or Thursday I can get some.

Best view fo the C notch is from behing the wheel looking at the frame from the side.
