Re: temp sensor
You wont run the stock guage, without drilling to fit? I opted for an Auto meter 90 sweep elct guage & the adaptor /sensor to fit the app. longhorn

Re: temp sensor
There is an adapter/sender setup I and many others have used. Do a search on my posts and you'll find it.
No drilling, both the adapter and sender are auto meter parts. |

Re: temp sensor
I drilled and tapped my water pump and put the sensor there.

Re: temp sensor
My opinion, does not really make a diff on your truck....but I will lay my thoughts down? Think about what you are playing, also where you want to go Get your 'ducks in a row", for where you want to be....you shure dont want to play it, 2 or 3 times over? Longhorn

Re: temp sensor
Mine is installed on the back passenger side of the block. I had a long senor and a short bushing that was right for the block threads. You can see the brass in the top of the picture.Reading is a little higher than the computer but thats OK, It reads around 200 with a 165 thermastat. The computer stay at around 175.

Re: temp sensor
My suggestion will cost about $20 and is way easier than drilling and tapping a head with the motor in the truck.

Re: temp sensor
grab yourself a 3 wire ls1 temp sensor, two of the outputs go to the ls pcm and the third output goes to your factory temp gauge, very simple no drilling and tapping, replaces the sensor on the drivers side head. You will need the pigtail for it though and its the same as the TPS sensor plug.
I dont think i paid over 20 bucks for mine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/380809605775?lpid=82 |

Re: temp sensor
My temp gauge is from Speed hut for the temperature gauge I got from them so it's not the stock gauge. But there are fittings that will work. I have also seen the 3 wire ls pigtail.

Re: temp sensor
The 3 wire senor and pig tail is $57.00 at Hawks they have them in stock. I was looking at them while I waited for them to finish up the truck. As stated though I don't know how acrate it would be with the stock truck gauge.
I just ran across this. http://www.classicdash.com/shopping/...ation-Kit.html This kit includes the required sensor adapters for the oil pressure gauge and water temperature gauges. As well as a 10K Resistor for the tachometer. The specialized instruction manual, fittings, sensor, and electrical component packaged in this kit make the instrument installation on your GM LS based engine simple and straight forward.

Re: temp sensor
Totally understand, while my house is finally "owned', it is still eating money in repairs I used the Autometer kit, listed @ the bottom of the page, & also had read that the sensor will work with the stock guage, but maybe not be right on for the read? If you test the temp, & know that the 195 spot is around 1/4 guage, or so....then you know where it is (should work for a temp solution) Best of fun, Longhorn

Re: temp sensor
Hi David, I drilled the face of the water pump and installed the stock sender. ls runs hotter than 1968 standards, gauge read about 3/4th scale. Installed a variable resistor potentiometer in-line and dialed the gauge down to read colder to the 1/2 scale i was looking for. If memory serves me correctly it was a 4 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. I shined up the sender brass terminal for good connections and consistency. Works spot on every time. Pulling the airstream in hot weather it runs about 5/8th scale, equal to about 208 degrees F. Good luck, Brian Fuller
