Truck wont start - HELP
I have a 69 c20. My dad had purchased it about 18 years ago and it had a push button in it. The wiring to this truck under the dash is kinda iffy. His wiring buddy took it out and made the regular key work again. Last year that had stopped working for some reason so i had put another push button back in to bypass the ignition. I had done it by splicing into the purple wire on the wiring harness on the engine side of the firewall, and running that to one side of the button, and the other side of the button went straight to the battery. now that isnt working as of this morning. I cleaned up all my connections, cleaned up the wire that goes from the positive terminal on the battery to the fender, cleaned that whole thing that that wire goes to. And i even maybe thought the push button went bad so i undid those wires and turned the key and touched them together and nothing. So i dont know what now. I can jump the starter and it fires up, but it wont fire up from the ignition or button. what should i do?

Re: Truck wont start - HELP
Make it stock again. Most people will not jump in when some one has a jerry rig setup.

Re: Truck wont start - HELP
I don't know what you "should do" but what I would do is track down the purple wire that goes from the ignition switch to the solenoid. I have attached a wiring diagram that may help.
If the truck still has the Neutral Safety Switch in place it could be an issue. Thing I would check are... neutral safety switch wire from ignition switch to firewall, 12 ga. Purple Wire from the external fuse block connector to the solenoid. 12 ga. Purple Just make sure they will light a test light when they are supposed to. If you use a volt meter, you may get 12 volts but not enough current. Use a test light. Make sure you have a good ground to the engine as well.

Sounds like you might have a broken wire somewhere. You can check that wire with a ohm meter if you have one. Or temporarily hook up your push button under the hood with some new temporary wires and check that it turns over. Then you know you have a broken wire.
