Re: Need seat pictures please
I have been in contact with "rideblue" on his cover. We are working it out. As stated before this will be a long process. Just trying to help you guys out. We will work on getting one pattern built, build one cover to see what it looks like and go from there.
Just to clarify on a comment earlier in the post. I closed the particular seat thread on the 67-72 side and started another one with updated pricing. I think I have all the pictures I need for now. Now we just need to move on one. Thanks for the help guys. |

Re: Need seat pictures please
Sounds good to me. If I had a original 65 seat cover I would have already sent it.

Re: Need seat pictures please
John Glenn , aka the astronaut , his dad does seats and I think has a or the pattern he has used in the past and the one he used on the highly detailed 65 he did a few years back.
Maybe we can get him to chime in and help out in some way

Re: Need seat pictures please
This sounds like it's old business and is not going to happen in the near future anytime soon, so chalk up to wishful thinking and I will turn my endeavors elsewhere. For apparently no reason I can think of closed a gold mine of seat-covers for much monies to be made in this business???...Vernski

Re: Need seat pictures please
I have my materials from SMS now I need to find a pattern for a 65 custom comfort seat. Or some measurements from a original seat. Does any one have a pattern for rent?

Re: Need seat pictures please
I can get all the pics and measurements you need off the 65 cover I have if you can't find a donar. I have a skin, but when it comes off its already accounted for by Pimpston65. He may be willing to share.

Re: Need seat pictures please
Used a 6 way power bench from a 83 Caprice Classic Estate wagon. Sliced and diced and then widened 6". Was a lot of work but came out nice and is comfy. Used the seat belt hdw from the same car also.

Re: Need seat pictures please
U guys and your fancy seat covers. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Who needs seat covers when you got duct tape? This seat back I pulled out of a 63 3/4ton truck I pulled apart today so I can shorten the frame to a short bed. There is so much tape on it the glue on the backside had dripped down into a puddle behind the aftermarket seat cover that topped this repair. There is actually a piece of plywood behind it with foam over that.

Quote:
Dad did the seat in the '65, and may still have the patterns he used. I have two '66 seats, one is too good to tear apart for patterns and the other has at least the original back rest; I need to take the rest of the newer cover off to see it's condition. The 64-65 deluxe seats are easy to reproduce, they're just sewn together. The '66 deluxe seats have heat seams that would need to be replicated to be 100% correct. I believe SMS is able to heat seam the white stripe to replicate the original covers, not aware of anyone else offering the service. This is not the correct fawn vinyl, but the cloth is NOS.

Re: Need seat pictures please
This is what's on the original rear seat(big) seat of my Suburban. Still there, but shriveling up from age. Hate to take it off, but eventually going to have it redone to match my front seat.

Re: Need seat pictures please
That seat cover (above) was made for me by SMS in Oregon. Here is another image. I know it is not correct for my '64 GMC standard seat but it is what I wanted. I sent them my worn out, original (all vinyl) seat covers and they used them for patterns and sent the new covers to me a few months later. That was the last time I saw my original covers. I can look up the price if you guys would like. It was not cheap. The guys at SMS were not excited about making the cover for me, but I was able to talk them into it. Seems like they would much rather sell the correct vinyl and cloth and be done with it.

Re: Need seat pictures please
Front seat cover cost me $815.96. That included several nos springs, batting, burlap, adhesive, hardware and labor to install the cover. I tried to install it myself but failed miserably. I think the cover alone was right at $700
