Snow storms
Anybody in those parts of the country experiencing this historic snow storm have any stories to tell? I see in the news people are just locking their cars on the interstate and walking home. I know some of them have to because they can't get around other stalled traffic, not necessarily because they can't negotiate the highway.
How are our classics doing out there? |

Re: Snow storms
I was in ATL two weeks ago when the first ice storm came through. My company car is a 2010 2wd F150. I had two transmissions in the bed that helped with the traction, but the electronic traction control is awesome. I'd rather been in my M1009 but I'm not sure it would have done any better.

Re: Snow storms
we all ready have 6-7" of ice up here an they say were in for 6-12" of snow in the next 24hrs.
the store was absolutly packed this evening like everbody was in a milk, bread and tp panic. i even had too wait inline too pump gas. then i saw a guy carrying 4 bags of ice from the local quicky mart an i thought to myself why on earth would you pay for it... unless he plans on drinking alot, but i guessing he was thinking were gonna lose power and it'll keep his freezer.....but why pay for it...hmmmm

Re: Snow storms
No big story but thought I would add.
Went to work this morning with no snow at all. 6am. Got to my training class and around 7am it started. Had class until 1 pm. They turned us loose with pay. wife texted me several times and said the roads were bad... how she knew this sitting in the house I have no idea. I drove home taking pictures and a video without any problems.

Re: Snow storms
Our snow started at 8pm. Supposed to get 10-15",which isn't historic. Back in November we got 6" of wet snow that would have been a foot if powder, and no one said much. That's early for snow around here,so more historic in my eyes. In Feb '10 we got 36" then 30" with only a day between. Now that's historic for here! In Dec '09 we got 18" and I thought that was the big one for the year. Have only had a few snows in the years between, none over 6". I'll report back in the morning. Supposed to snow all day into tomorrow night. Just praying it's all snow. Had freezing rain last week and got 1/4" of ice on everything. Lost power four three days

Re: Snow storms
We got some of your backlash last night. Yesterday the sun was shinning, it was 80*, then just as I was heading back to our offices- it started to pour with sqawls of rain off and on all evening and night. Haven't checked outside or looked at the news yet this morning to see what today is going to be like.
Uph. just as I'm typing this, I here more rain outside. Drat. |

Re: Snow storms
We got right at 2" here, then a skim coat of ice (thank God) then another 1/2" of snow on top of that. Roads are a complete washboard snow/ice mess. Tomorrow may be the worse day for this area. The roads all had a skim coat of grippy snow on them, if the majority of it melts then refreezes tonight it's going to be a huge mess in the morning.

Re: Snow storms
Just before daylight (6:45) I measured 15". It kinda stopped now,but a good 4-6 more fell,so it's 20 or more now. I think it's drizzling now. Mid-Atlantic BS. Always nice to get just a good old snow, but the halfassed mix we get is just annoying.
6:45 this morning:

Re: Snow storms
If we got that much snow here, it would have smashed the record, and school would be closed for 3 weeks

Re: Snow storms
We have close to nine inches when I checked about 12. It looks like our front yard had more snow than the rear. Kinda funny.

Re: Snow storms
You guys are getting a brutal winter back there. Meanwhile on the left coast we are desperate for rain still. The big storms dumped a lot of rain north of San Francisco but nothing to the south. 80 degrees again today and expected to be that tomorrow. We truly have not experienced winter this year.

Watch out for black ice the next couple of hours, already passed a rolled over Tahoe. Looked like a nice one too.
