Needs some ideas for a 55.2 toneau cover
About to start tearing into my 55 2nd which is getting a complete face lift. I'm planning to mini tub the back and maybe locate the battery at the front of the box and would prefer to top the box with a decent cover when all is done and said. I like the soft tops over the glass ones and wondered if anyone has any pics of a toneau cover on the short box step side so I can get some ideas and what looks and fits best?
Plan on using this truck as a daily driver and the box will see some use but I'd like it covered when cruising around. Any pics or links appreciated. |

That's awesome...thanks. I did a search but misspelled toneau and didn't come up with much. My bad.

Understand, sometimes you have to start with simplist term, like "bed", look at the results and redo the search based on what seems to be turning up that you are interested in. I don't think I could spell tonneau correct everytime either!

Re: Needs some ideas for a 55.2 toneau cover
My friend who did the seat for my 48 did the Soft tonneau (spell check works) on it in 1973. He used vinyl top material that matched the interior color. This time I'd like to use convertible top material but may build a hard cover and then cover it as water collects on/in the soft ones and that tore the one I had on my truck when it got about 30 gallons of water on it. The two best things about a soft cover is that they do keep what is in the bed hidden and if you have something like a cooler that is slightly too tall they will give enough to fit with it in the bed. Plus they are easy to roll up if you need to haul something and not too hard to remove when you need to remove them.

Re: Needs some ideas for a 55.2 toneau cover
I'll be using this truck as a work horse and daily driver so I want something real practical. If I'm out on a road trip and I spot and old gas pump, I want to roll up the soft top and haul back a pump or two without having to worry about a one piece soft tonneau being an issue. Looking at a couple roll tops and really like the aluminum one that's also very secure. I emailed them to ask if they have one to fit a step side short box.
