Headers for LS swap?
I searched the forum and net to find out what headers people are using for their LS swaps. Maybe itīs just my lack of skill with search engines, but I have not been able to find that many options.
Seems like Thorley and Schoenfeld are popular, but are there any others worth looking at? I would prefere to go with longheaders. All so, what type of engine brackets have you guys used with longtubes? Didi you have to move the engine forward to get the headers to clear? Any advice apriciated!

Re: Headers for LS swap?
Hi stepper86, before i did headers i considered mount location for stock a/c and exhaust position and i chose the 2001 organ donor mounts. They obviously work with factory low mount a/c and because the mounts sit low they are never in the way of any exhaust style. I believe firebird/camaro LS1 (98-02) and trailblazer-envoy-rainer with 5.3/6.0 are a mount that looks like a hockey puck horizontally positioned down low. These mounts just require a little fab work with 1/4" plate to the crossmember and then you will have nothing in the way. Good luck, Brian F.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
There is some fudge, depending on what exact setup you are running. The TBSS cast manifolds are the jack-of-all fits on swaps, since they have an ultra low profile and clearance. The same goes for the hooker cast-style manifolds, which just like the TBSS mani's has all its runners into one main pipe, instead of the individual tubes, which add to the width and drop of the exhaust.
For longtubes, the DT's are still extremely popular since they are offered in the larger diameter for those needing the extra ponies.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
I used to TBSS longtube pacesetters, but I did have to dent the drivers side header a little.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
Here are the long tubes that I used. They fit with hardly any frame work on passenger side. There not cheap though. I used regular motor mounts with neopreme with a adapter plate.

This is my Driver side header. They are headers from eBay they were cheap so I thought I would try them fit pretty good i didn't have to trim anything. But they are short not long type. I will post picture of the passenger side also. I a, using early classics mounts and trans crossmember.

I refuse to spend $600+ on a set of LT headers unless I'm absolutely certain they'll fit.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
Cool, thanks. No rush, whenever you happen to have the hood open next if you could just measure from the head to the outside of the pipe at the flange.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
The drivers side of mine was a direct placement no mods to anything. Pasenger side they barely cut the top flange of the frame rail and then heated it up bent it down and rewelded it. very nice job and you must really know your frame rails to know where they did it.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
I had to dent one of the tubes in about an 1/8 of an inch, it was touching the frame. But that is also using ECE mounts all the way back.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
For 600+ my money still goes to DT. Just because of the large tube, quality, guaranteed fit, and the fact that he was the first to do them for us.

Re: Headers for LS swap?
Unless you are set on headers, TBSS manifolds are a no-brainer. They fit great and use the flanges from the 5.3 truck manifolds. Here is a link to GM parts direct
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm in the search box, put 2007 Trailblazer SS Total for both manifolds w/o shipping is around $100 bucks! Whadda deal!

Re: Headers for LS swap?
I wouldn't buy $600.00 headers and then dent them in to fit. You just took the advantage away of the header in my opinion. I know it's your truck but I would have rather tweeked the frame than the headers.
