47-55.1 20" wheels in a 47-54 chevy truck

I have a Mustang II with 2" drop spindles. I want to run 20" x 9" wheels with 255/45/20 tires wondering if anyone is running this setup and if so, what offset wheel are you using. I don't want my tires to rub on the front fenders and it's hard to guess on what's going fit and not rub with this big of a wheel.

Just so everyone knows the tire wheel combo is not that big. It's 28.5" tall a 15" with 275 series would be close to the same height. So if you have a 28.5" tall wheel and tire combo that is 10" wide what offset is your wheel to miss the fender?

Youngrodder is our resident go to guy when it comes to big rims and rubber band tires. His is one of the few trucks they look right on.

I have a m2 ifs without the 2 inch drop and just measured with a buddys wheel wright gizmo for a 15 inch rim 235 75r tire and got a 3 inch negative offset . Don't know if that helps or not should add that I used a 7 inch wide rim for the calculation

Thank you, I think I have a good understanding of the offset deal. It's wether or not a certain offset is going to work with a 10" tire. I'm trying to figure out if a -12mm will be enough which 4 1/2" offset. I have 5/8" shorter a-arms than stock and I know a 1.0mm offset will work, but I don't want my tire in to far I don't think that would look right. I want to make absolutely sure before dropping $2000 on tires and wheels

It would be really hard to say for sure what will work with your vehicle since its not the same as everyone elses. On later trucks its easier because they use specific parts and everyone pretty much uses the same, but with yours being MII drop spindles narrow arms and who knows if the front end is mounted slightly different than everyone elses by even a MM or two. All that put together means that we can say that a +/-##MM wheel works on my truck, but may be to tight for yours. Really your best bet is to go out there with a couple rulers and a plumb bob to get the measurements specific to your truck.

This setup has 20's on the rear and 18's up front. I typically don't like the bigger rims on these rigs, but this looks great.

The Blue truck that Groyd posted the link for is one of those few that looks decent with the big wheels and the 18's on the front have a lot to do with that.

Personally I don't like the looks of the big wheels and ultrma low profile tires on the older trucks and the "Progressive truckers" have slapped me for voicing that opinion previously but that stems more from the fact that the local tire stores seem to only sell the ugly gaudy wheels that look like the guy who designs the battle axes for World of Warcraft designed them. Locally I believe it's called the Gangsta bling look.

Yeah, see I don't like the small rim with a big tire I just think it's old school. I may be 49, but I like the new look. I love big rims, I don't like e real skinny tire because it rides like crap, but I'm getting a 45 series which is about 4" of tire. Just enough to get a good ride but still look cool with the low profile look. Also I'm putting 20's all the way around so I can rotate, the 18 front and 20 in the back again I don't like which IMO is still old school. Tires wear quickly because you can't rotate them, so in the long run you spend more money on tires.

Dont know if this will help but mine are 20 X 8.5 on front with 6.250 BS and 245/45/20 tires.

I prefer the "old school look" but I am 67 and that is what I grew up with. I'll say one thing or ask one thing. How much and how far do you plan to drive the truck after it is finished. Local cruises only or some long over the road trips as I don't see those real low profile tires as being comfortable on serious long road trips. As I said in another thread my daily driver is a 2000 Cad DTS with 17 inch rims and 235 45 tires on it and it is the roughest riding vehicle I have ever owned as far as feeling the bumps in the road and the suspension is stone stock. I couldn't even visualize wanting to jump in a truck with those little low profile tires and head off 2500 miles one way to Texas to hit rod runs and visit the inlaws on 20s on an AD truck with even the best suspension out there.

That might be a question for Youngrodder and the others with trucks on the street with low profile tires and big (over 17 inch) rims, how many miles a year do you put on your trucks and how many long road trips have you actually done or do you trailer the truck everywhere because it is a "show" truck? I don't ever remember seeing anyone's thread on road trips on 20's in their trucks where they drove 1500 or 2000 miles one way across the country and it is something that makes me wonder if they actually get driven distances.

This truck will not be a show truck and I will drive it everyday wherever I go. I have 20's on my Nitro with 50 series and I love the way it drives. So 20's with 45 series is where it's at for me.

seems like a lot for a plastic tool, but well worth it. saved me lots on trial and error. you can also rotate it once mounted so this helps lots on the front to check what may rub.
