Aerotruk63....that looks a lot different than the 17 spline Eatons like I have. The brochure you have is for the Detroit locker...correct?

Re: No-SPIN Differential INFORMATION

Thanks for posting, Norm. Up until now, I've found the peculiarities of the no spin axle have been somewhat of a mystery and vary depending upon who is telling the story. This is great info, right from the source!

Re: No-SPIN Differential INFORMATION

I would say yes. For the heavier than 1/2 ton trucks. I have the same Posi unit in my 63 and have another to put in the K10 eventually. The NoSPIN brochure says you can have it in the front differential of a 4WD as well. Wonder if these Eaton Posi's can go up front in a 1/2 ton?

Thanks for sharing the literature. The Detroit locker is also the one pictured on the Posi cab tag.

Re: No-SPIN Differential INFORMATION

Interesting KS10 on the envelope and the Cab Tag. Do you know what size/model/brand truck that tag's from 1963c-10?

By the way copy and paste my avatar in the future. lol

Re: No-SPIN Differential INFORMATION

That tag came from a 62 c-20. I know its not the correct tag for the posi I'm using, but I wanted a back cab tag to put in the 63 when I install the posi. It was held in by 4 screws.

Heres the truck it came out of and the mounting location. From the pictures it looks to be directly above the driver side gas tank strap.

No, not that one. But I found another after I got rid of the Smash Hit 61 grill guard. It was also off a 62, but I'm going to see if I can get it to work somehow with a 63 frame. The guy charged me $150, which I though was very reasonable.

This truck above was parted out here on the forum, and I believe another member did save the grill guard though.

by 1966 the tag had been downgraded from a plate to a mere sticker. It's location was approximately the same, behind the seat.

Wow, another ex Bell Telephone truck ( special order green paint). These C 20 No Spins have a problem of "racheting up" on left turns. Eventually they wipe out pinion bearings and your rear end howls going down the road. No problem, at 250K when this happened to me, I junked the 4.57 No Spin it and replaced it with a 4.10 standard differential, quiet again.

Re: No-SPIN Differential INFORMATION

The switch to a sticker may have happened sometime in '63. My '63 C20 has the NoSpin rear and has a sticker in the cab, left side, behind the seat. I also have all the literature that came with it. It was in the glove box when I got the truck and is pristine.

Hey Bears63....where was your 63 assembled at? I'm just interested to see if there was a change at assembly plants or at a model year.

So far I can verify an aluminum tag on a 62, but unsure of plant location. And your 63 seems to be the 1st documented sticker cab that posted. I know its probably petty, but its the small details that really pull the period correct restorations together.

The small details are what help us solve the mysteries! My '63 C20 was assembled at the Janesville plant.

Re: No-SPIN Differential INFORMATION

Ok, thanks. And I agree about the mystery solving. If the trucks had been documented as well as the cars we'd have a lot more info. But thanks to sites like this one I think we've accumulated quite a bit more than what was available 10 years ago.

This is a bit like accurately dating an antique piece of silver based upon the ever-changing hallmarks. LOL. Notice all three tags/stickers posted have a different address shown.

the reproduction sticker was from a 67-72 truck if that helps identify that label any.

A little further information on my truck. I pulled the papers out last night to get the info. The vin is 3C254J126938 and it was delivered to the buyer on April 19, 1963.
