Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
Survival instincts. Both for not letting the building fall on me and also for doing whatever it takes to make a living. In the good years through the '80s and '90s I went into business as a siding and exterior trim specialist, after learning to build, renovate, remodel, and restore homes. I have only done maybe 1/2 dozen whole house siding jobs since '06. I'm back to doing anything from the ground up. I like the historical work and wish that was all I did. Much of what I've done for this home owner has been "just enough to get by". It would be nice to find someone who got a place like that and wanted to make it all really tip-top nice. I do landscape design, too!!

Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
Thanks! With all the GMs out there I try to find ones that have something different about them...what you don't commonly see. The single color paint, tan in and out, being a Jimmy vs Blazer, diesel, and basic trim yet a few choice comfort options all combined to catch my attention. It's ready for rubber now. I've only run those old MTRs off my deceased '91 Burb and new tires will give such a better ride. Not to mention fresh tread!
My buddy with that '85 keeps hinting at maybe letting it go. His wife has a broken ankle and as she was climbing in the other day she was gripin' about all his old junk and asked what a new truck would cost. He said a good $40k or more and she said if he could come up with 1/2 she'd take care of the rest. It has him thinking. I am way ready to get out of my '92 K3500 work truck and been pondering which way to go. It's either get an '80s K25/35 (GMC) or 03-07 K2500/3500 that already has a utility body. Either one I don't mind working on or a more fresh one the would hopefully take less to keep going...for a while. I want that '85 of his pretty bad. I gave him the 4L80E I had and I'd want that with it. Right now he says the 700r4 is tired. He went through the axles, rear discs,3.73s,rebuilt the 350,went TPI,and says it does around 14 mpg. I'd give the body some TLC and a paint job. Ideally I'd like to find a decent low-profile utility body and put a custom tonneau on,like the '85 I had. Or,find an enclosed utility body and cut it down to flush with top of cab, kinda like how my '92 looks with utility cap on factory bed. I'd like to have the doors on the back In a perfect world, I'd work out of something like these (w/o cap): If I found this next truck ,in 4wd, I'd be one happy man. It could be anywhere from 78-87. Maryland Parks used to run these with brush fire apparatus. The last one was my '95 I set up as my ultimate work truck...till I hurt it

Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
Hey Tim,
I just now saw your Vette comment. Lol. That thing has been a pain in my @ss for a while now. I dont think I took any pics while it was there. Jason said about bringing it back over sometime. I hate computers and fuel injection sometimes.

Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
I keep forgetting to take pics when I'm over at Jason's but here are some at my place. I dont think you've seen my truck since the 8 lug conversion. It now has 4:10 gears instead of 3:08 and I love it. It is a parts from three different trucks but it is solid.

Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
Dang Steve,I like it! I want to get rid of my '92 (I think Jason would like that idea) to end up with something like yours there. They may be old,but there are parts out there and I can work on it. Just good old trucks. That thing is cool, and GMC to boot! (whatever the heck that means)*
*Ok,had to look...and I found it. More random action for the Jimmy too big thread http://english.stackexchange.com/que...we-say-to-boot I figger I done learnt sumthin rat cheer

Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
Haha! I've heard that expression many times. It just looks strange when you type it.
Yeah I dont blame you for wanting something older. All you need is a solid body and the rest is easy to find/build. I built mine for winter use but now I hate driving it in the salt because it has only a small amount of surface rust here and there.

Re: Thought My Jimmy Was Big
That's my problem. It's hard to sacrifice a truck. A junker for winter would be best, but like driving something nice.I guess I'll sty with the junker
Did Jason give you his space# at Carlisle. It's row Nn and IIRC its 37/38
