Re: Major Setback
Well I picked up the truck today. I was surprised this morning after talking to Bruce. He had Carolina Driveline do a one peice drive shaft for the truck at his expense not mine. $490.00 and it looks great!
The transmission he said was fine other than the rear tail section bushing and seal. They replaced it and he flushed the trans out good 2 times he said. Changed filters each time and said it was good to go. He gave me a 30 day garuntee with it. I would like to have had it rebuilt but with the 30 days I'm Ok with it. We will see how it does. Driving to the beach next week so that should be a good test for it. 5hrs each way running 70-80 all the way.

Well I hope everything is good inside the transmission. I will tell it by next week I hope if not. The driveshaft looks to be 100% in everyway which is good. When I drove it home yesterday I went the long way home to hit the 4 lanes and gotter up to 70-80 MPH and held it for a mile are so. I had a sound that I never had before so I was worried. I went by my buddies shop and had him drive it by himself so he could see if anything seemed wrong. He came back and said it drove great and he didn't feel anything. So I'm good with it. He told me the one peice may have a differant sound to it compared to what I had before with the 2 peice. He told me to take my hearing aids out when driving it! Ha... Most of the time I do anyway!

I drove over to the local truck meeting today in Greenville SC that I help organize so I haven't had a lot of time. I've been down loading pictures since I got home. We had 33-35 trucks show up today!

Re: Major Setback
Well I drove it to Myrtle Beach last night 289 miles and it ran fine. Everything was good. The drive shaft seems to be hallow and it is making the noise at highway speeds. I wrapped duct tape around the center of the shaft before I left and it made it a lot quiter up until about 80 MPH. I will call the shop back next week and see when they can look at it. It needs to be cut open and have insulation installed welded back and rebalanced. That is what I'm being told anyway.

Re: Major Setback
Yes I wasn't happy at all about it but he made it right. Now I have to get the drive line shop to fix the howling sound it makes when running the interstate speed's!

Re: Major Setback
Hi Andy, reading this series of posts related to your driveshaft woes i noted on post #26 what looks like the riveted carrier bearing support brace that was attached to the crossmember was torched off and the flames discolored the crossmember and and discolored areas in the same region on the new driveshaft??? If so, is the driveshaft warped from being torched at??? The discoloration has a light blue hue to it on my screen. Hope all goes well.

Re: Major Setback
68c10airstream, you may be on to something there. I hadn't really payed that any attention.
If your talking about this picture it's the angle of the picture.

Re: Major Setback
Is there a good amount of room on either side? Even with the angle of the picture, if the 1piece shaft is a larger diameter you have less tolerance on either side. Its not necessarily a problem, just something to keep your eyes on as you use it a bit.
If your out on the road and hit some woopdy-woops or choppy roads that would bounce and try to off-center a suspension, take a look at the shaft after you come back...just to make sure there is no sign of scoring on near the pass-through.

Re: Major Setback
The truck sitting at the show. I took the picture of the truck in front of the Power Tour bus last June in Chattanooga Tenn before I left out for Charlotte that morning. Had it blown up and went to Hobby Lobby and bought a cheap frame and table top easel for it. Less than $20.00.
Here is the link for the car show. http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/an...24467353832517

Re: Major Setback
Well this past wekend at the car show I meet some cool people. One of them was a friend of Charlies the guy who did the tune on my truck at Hawks. I gave him my number and he said he would have him call me. Well Wednesday night he called, I was surprised but very glad he did. We talked for a hour and next week we are going to do a drive tune on it. I'm going to pick him up and he is going to see what he can do with it. I told him I was going on the power tour in June and he said we may can get 1 are 2 more MPG out of it. That's not a bunch but every bit helps. He is going to look at everything again and make sure that it's right.
Still got to call the drive shaft place though.
