after market tanks
Hi all, I just bought a 72 jimmy that is all stock, it has dealer added aftermarket tanks with added filler doors on each side of the bed, my question is would it hurt the value to remove these and fill in the the holes with new metal? Thanks

Re: after market tanks
I would be more worried about the location of the fuel tanks. If they are under the front seats, did they remove the rocker boxes? That is a structural part of the body.
As far as value, if the truck is all original and there is documentation for the install of the fuel tanks as the dealer, leave them. |

Re: after market tanks
after researching this forum a little more I found out some more info on the rocker boxes, and after looking it does look like mine has been removed,so it looks like I may drop the tanks and see about getting those replaced. it's too bad because the truck is from Vegas and rust free, its been stored in a basement since 96 and only has 100,000 miles with all service documentation and even Original Spare that's never been on the ground. I'm still a little confused but I think the rocker box and torsion box are the same thing, is this right anyone?

Re: after market tanks
Yes, those two words can be interchanged.
What are your plans? It seems the truck is very original. If it's going to be a weekend cruiser, and your not going to be taking the truck off road, you may get away without pulling the tanks. The rocker boxes are there to add support when you remove the hardtop. If the top is off and both doors open and close without issue, leave everything as it is. If the doors have some issues, try replacing all the rubber body mounts first. Make sure you do this with the top on. This may help align everythin back to where it should be.... PS: |

Re: after market tanks
thanks for the info, it could use new body mounts, I pulled one tank today, I think I will get rid of them and fill in bed sides where the gas fillers are, like to get it back like it left the factory, and yes it will just be a weekend cruiser. I will try to post some pics in a day or two. Looking for some rams horn manifolds has anyone tried the after market ones with the 2.5 inch collector?
