Fellow Texans quick question
OK, quick question here, I keep seeing these Texas black vanity license plates with the star/Houston rockets/Texans in the left corner with red and orange letters, not personalized with words just the color scheme. I visited my-plates website and saw nothing like this. Anyone have any info on this, are these plates painted to match the car? I'm pretty sure that's not legal. All advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Fellow Texans quick question
I just ordered the Black Plate with the big white star to the left over a week ago. I didn't see any options for colors on the letters. Might be a magic marker upgrade! lol

Re: Fellow Texans quick question
There are plates available from the tax office that do not go through MyPlates as well. usually they have an affiliation with another group, and are renewed annually. Check out the TxDOT page.

I have heard of people doing custom LP's(vynl on the actual plate) just as long as they dont change the LP numbers.

Re: Fellow Texans quick question
^ the Texans plate is what I'm talking about...I've seen the rockets one and the big star...is this custom?
Also, checked tax office and was informed to visit my plates website. I would do this, but will I get in trouble with the law if I'm stopped? But can't really see why since the plate numbers will be registered in my name so, no crime there. Thanks.

Re: Fellow Texans quick question
I'm glad my custom plates are grandfathered!! I keep the same plate anem and lower registration fee too. The new vanity plates cost almost twice as much!! I was told by a tax clerk to never them expire. If they expire, I would have to pay the higher price to get them back if availble.

The ones on Instagram are for the front plates only.

Re: Fellow Texans quick question
Do the cops check if the custom plates are actually registered with myplates.com? Since the plate number would be the same, do they even care?

Re: Fellow Texans quick question
Here's a flier from myplates which tells you what's not legal. What seems to be common is having the correct plate number printed on a fake vanity plate.
MyPlates.com/go/fakeplateflier Realistically though the officer would really need to be wanting to look at it closely to see that it's fake if the plate number matches the vehicle type registered and the VIN for the vehicle that the plate is on, unless the plate was something really hokey looking. Technically though yes, it is illegal, and yes you can be fined.
