hi I am new to this network my name is urs original I am from basel in Switzerland but I live in oz since 1982.i own 3 blazers and a suburban and bits and pieces.now in oct. 2013 the little plastic gearsector behind the ign switch on the 73 k5 broke. the only place I could get one was this tilt steering column place . this is not a complaint ok. but it cost me $45 for each sector gear plus $45each freight. $180 for two little plastic sector gears. could you people please advise me of as cheaper way to get parts send to oz? [ the k5 I used for 20 years in the variety club bashes mostly on rough dirtroads. and all I had was half broken chassis rh rear xmember of body rubbed on top. and 2 wheelbearings on drive axle because of design fault.my fault. as I am computer ilitaret? could some one advise me how to send pictures on this web site please?

No there is no way to avoid the cost. Your in a part of the world where everything thing from America is expensive, the furthest away, from my understanding rare, and or at best un-common.

If you have friends here maybe they could ship you something, and claim a gift to avoid import duties. That probably would be the only way to shave cost off an item.

one thing i do urs is always buy from places that will ship USPS, if they dont, ask them, quite often they will do it. all courier co.'s have retarded "brokerage fees" when your item hits the border, usually about 35-50% of the value of your item. postal has a $5 flat fee no matter what it is. a nice bonus i've had (dont know 'bout the oz posties) is i have ordered thousands of dollars & 100's of item, & maybe 1/2 a doz times i've ever paids customs or taxes. i know our free trade wipes out alot of the customs, the rest i think they just dont care or are too lazy.

Have the same thing pop up on the Jeep boards. Guys in the US want the Jeep Overlanders (google it, they are SWEET), and guys in OZ need US parts for their Jeeps. Only way I can see to save it get a bunch of guys together who need parts and place it all in one order.
