Thumbs up Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

This is what he was looking at I think. They have been posted before but I haven't seen anybody here that has used them.

I like this one though the best. Don't know how it would do under a hood though. Unless you had a cowl hood to get the air to it.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

Is that dropped part at the front plumbed to the MAF? It looks like you'd have some serious air flow restriction issues and it would likely interfere with the MAF reading. Be interesting to see what it does on a flow bench. On a truck, I'd also worry about how much flow you can get in the space between it and the hood unless running a scoop. The look is interesting, but I'm not sure how it will work from a performance standpoint.

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

The coil covers are $150 plus $15 shipping the intake cover is $175 plus $15 shipping and the complete kit intake cover and coil covers is $325 plus $25 shipping. I could have bought a plastic cover for $80-100 but I thought this was cool and different so I bought it.

Also, this was for a truck intake, he stated the car ls cover is a little more due to more fab work.

That's not too bad considering the fab work involved. I know it's not all that complicated but $325 is doable. Can you give us some feedback and pics once you receive and install?

I am always looking for something that you don't see often in air cleaners and this guy has some metal shaping talent, these parts LOOK to be very well built, keep us posted on what you find, I hope you like them !!!!!
Those prices are well worth the time spent fabing those up.
Does he do one off parts?

I think he can, he did some coil covers with chevy logo on them and they looked really good. Seems like a nice guy as well. I'll ask him and report.

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

Got my covers and I'm happy with them. They are pretty fancy and well made. The only downer is that the top cover rear bolt hole doesn't line up with anything on the rear of my 99 intake. Maybe other years are different. Easy fix to drill another hole, but still.

Don't know if any one has thought of this but there is no provision for the oil cap. That means to fill oil you have to remove the top cover so you can remove a coil cover so you can fill it up.

The one change i may make is that the covers use aluminum tube spacers to hold them off the intake and valve covers. The problem here is trying to hold the tubes in place while starting bolts. I think I'll tack weld some steel tube under there to make the install easier.

Another observation is that the engine has to be pretty far forward to clear the firewall. These things have a pretty big footprint. I ended up with V8 engine brackets in the forward holes and the ebay adapter plates on the block in the front holes(which pushes the engine back some). I had the engine about 3 inches back with 6 cyl brackets before but making it pretty won over maximum engine setback. To be honest, It doesn't sit any farther forward than a stock 350 does in these trucks.

Sorry the pics didn't turn out any better.

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

My concern is the stock brake booster clearance to the coil cover.
How far is your valve cover away from the firewall on the passenger side?

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

Good point. Hadn't thought of that, but I am using a smaller 2000 Trans Am booster. The cover had about an inch of clearance.

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

One thing I will say about these covers or any other on our trucks....
many take up a ton of room that you will need up front.
So unless you plan on recessing the firewall they extra inch or better you need for these will be needed for fans and such up front.

The 99-2000 had a top only square cover, instead of the 3-piece cover adopted by the trucks and vans from then on. Most likely, thats why the stud boss isn't there on yours. It shouldn't be like that on anything but the early early truck engines.

Re: Engine Covers/ Air Cleaner Truck?

Don't have the engine in yet. Turning a 69 Chevy long bed into a 67 gmc unibody short bed with a mild chop is taking longer than I expected. I did get the engine built and painted, but still on the stand.
