Found a 66

I mostly spend time on the 73-87 forum, but I have known about this truck for a while and I finally decided to buy it. It is not a custom cab, but it has the big rear window, 283, powerglide, and air cond. The truck has been sitting for a LONG time, but I did not want it to go to the crusher. Here are a few pics.

Re: Found a 66

Cool truck! Looks to me like it originally was a fleetside and was turned to a stepper...or perhaps someone just put the custom fleetside moldings on later.

Re: Found a 66

Thanks guys. I am going to get it running now. It spins over, but it is not firing. I probably need to clean the points so it will fire.
I think the truck was a fleetside also. The bed looks like it was originally a different color from the rest of the truck. Is there any way to tell without actually having the model number?

Re: Found a 66

Mine did the same thing because it set for 30 years also. I put a new coil, cleaned points and plugs. It started right up. Here it is:

Gotta love that 62 barnfind, no way a car today could sit for 30yrs and be able to start up with such minimal work.

Crawl under the truck and see if the bed mounting brackets have been moved. Or look in the bed if its wood and see where the bed bolts run through. You can use either bed on the same frame, just different mounting locations. Factory mounts were riveted in. So to swap the bed, they either moved the bed mounts or the mounting holes in the stepside bed to match the fleetside frame.
