SBC Pulleys
I am assembling my first small block 350 and have I think a couple of simple questions. The engine was rebuilt and basically stock, and the truck is non a/c. I am using LMC to order some parts and based on their catalog, they offer a 2 and 3 groove crank shaft pulley. Which should I get? Also for the water pump pulley, they offer 1 or 2 groove so which one of these should I get? I tried calling LMC about it and went to a local parts store and neither could answer

3 and 2 leaves you with options i will brake down for you the 2 on water pump one goes to alternator and one goes to power steering pump each also go to crank which leaves one on crank if you go with a/c etc

2 and 1 for no A/C. The power steering runs off the crank without a loop over the water pump.

Glad you brought that up, that's what I originally was thinking and thank you for the picture to confirm. BUT, I see your truck is 78 and mine is an 84... I wouldn't think so but could there possibly be a difference in configuration?

I am using a long water pump so how many grooves for each pulley would I need? I understand that more grooves will always work but it would not look good IMO if there are excess grooves.

If the bracketry is different, then it could be a different configuration. If your component locations are same as mine -- same bracketry -- I would think you could do the 1+2 for a clean look regardless of the stock configuration. BTW, mine is a long-nosed water pump as well. And that's a 94-amp alternator, and runs fine on one belt with all the lights on and the electric fan running, so no problem with one belt there even with a higher-capacity alternator.

I am a little late to the discussion, however, I really like the pulley set up on the 1986, and 87s ( the same set-up may also be used on later years). Here they are really cheap in the junk yards. Do not have picture of them on engine however, do have picture off engine. These are from engine with air injection, and power steering; no A/C.

The water pump pulley has two v belts, one for power steering and other for air injection. For my application not using air injection ( it is fine to use if you want), therefor , using only one v-belt for power steering. Serpentine belt for all other stuff. Very clean looking engine. Picture if of parts cleaned.

Thanks aoette, this is definitely another possibility but I am sticking with what I had. I just ordered the pulleys along with other parts from LMC
