info on conversion lugnuts needed to fit newer wheels on old truck
Guys, it seems i didnt research enough. Im installing these newer hd wheels on my truck, i knkw i need the lugnuts that have the external thread for the center cap.
I rhought the lugnuts that came with the wheels would work, and although the inner threads look thr same as the lugnuts that came off my truxk, tbey dont thread easily. I had to force one and pulled it off thinking it must be a different thread. Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what i need to run these wheels? Will the factory lugnuta that came with these wheels not work on my older studs? If not, what are the exact dimensiona i need to buy? I want to try and find them local if possible. Thanks! |

Factory lug nuts are METRIC.
You need 9/16" conversion lug nuts for the 3/4 ton trucks.

Inner thread is metric. You might want to look at the lug stud you forced on,...

I've always bought them from eBay because few local places have them. Hit the eBay button and you'll have them in a few days. From the picture, it looks like your truck is somewhat apart currently anyway. What's a few days waiting for lugnuts gonna hurt ?

Re: info on conversion lugnuts needed to fit newer wheels on old truck
That's a problem.
Back when there were take off places that sold late model wheels by the thousands the conversion lugnuts were a common local item. Now there's little demand for them so it's basically mail order unless you strike it very lucky.

If your local wheel/tire shops don't have them, the place Scoti recommend offers expedited shipping.
Probably wont be cheap but if you need them you need them. |

Re: info on conversion lugnuts needed to fit newer wheels on old truck
My brother has a 72 3/4 ton 2wd. He replaced the front & rear studs on his with 2004 3/4 ton rear studs so he could run the newer style GM wheels. He did a bit of research and found that the knurls on the 72's were about the same size as the '04's. I'll double check at work tomorrow and get exact specs on the studs (diameter, length, knurl size, shoulder length) for the 80's and an '04 and post what I find after work.

Re: info on conversion lugnuts needed to fit newer wheels on old truck
Napa sells the conversion lug nuts. Don't have a pn handy, but if you got time to spare, hit up napa online and search for lug nut. conversion lug nut may make the list shorter, but I found them by accident when looking for a different lug nut using a generic search.
