Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
Gents,
Another question for a newbie... Does anyone make/know of a drop in fuel pump for those of us that want to retain an in cab tank? Could run an external but past experience would rack that one up as the last resort.... Appreciate your response. P. |

In tank pump to feed a carb motor still or for an LS swap? (58 PSI) just asking as even I think an 'in-tank' pump for an LS swap (say aeromotive 340) it will still be hella loud in the cab.) Let us know what your working with and trying to accomplish so hopefully we can make a few suggestions for an in-tank / in-cab before recommending an fuel tank out back.

LS Swap.
Current thoughts are for a frame mounted pump with a sump provision on the tank and a swirl pot. Plans are for a LM7 -cam upgrade, 80gph injectors...and oh yes... a turbo... Reason for an in tank is that I have had past experience of pumps overheating (Holley) on a FI engine. Good call on the noise, strange but hadn't occured to me :/ P. |

Re: Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
In cab fuel pump would be crazy noisy! I have some experience with the overheating pumps and there is a cure. On all sorts of old cars I figured out that as long as my pump stayed flooded they would last. On an old rear engine car I had the lowered pump was running for about 15 years and when I sold it was still running that pump. Just make sure the pump is super flooded by putting it as low as safely and practically possible and the pump shouldn't overheat. Remember that closer to the tank is going to keep better and stronger flooding on the pump.

Re: Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
Can't talk you into a rear mounted fuel tank? (ye$, i know... more co$t)
The boyd 67-72 rear tank does fit into our 66's. Rear sumped fuel tank w/ an in-tank Aeromotive Stealth 340. Price isn't 'too' bad either. in tank pump... that is outside of the cab.... I'm hoping with a full tank of fuel I'll barely hear it at start-up.

Re: Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
Depending on what options you end up going....
Talk to travis @ AZ pro performance... I want to say I was around $680 to my door... during a forum special and that was without the sending unit. EFI 67-72 tank w/ Aeromotive Stealth 340 Pump w/ Roll Over Vent installed. I want to say w/ the sending unit will be another 30-40. You figure some/most good exterior pumps are 300-400 ish by themselves... your getting a nice tank and roll over / sending unit for another 350ish. Might have to wait for a forum group buy to knock off shipping or another discount.... Travis usually does one every 4-6 months maybe? Boyd Tank was bar-none awesome quality and service from Travis at AZ Pro Performance will have me going back again. Win-Win

Re: Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
I had a rear mounted tank on my 56 PU and hated the issue of filling it with fuel. Eventually made an inlet that went through the chassis and came up inside the side of the bed.
That made the truck usable (fuel fill in the bed floor? Really?) but it spat back on fill ups and got really old really quickly.... So... think the rear tank is a possible non starter... With that in mind then if I sump the in cab tank and then mount the pump to either the inside of the chassis rail (or possibly to a supplementary cross member along with pre and post filters) would that work? Think the blow off valve 'might' drown out the pump.... P. |

Re: Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
I made my own pick up for an in tank pump for in cab tank for my TBI engine. I wrapped the tank with some 1/4" high density foam and also lined the back of the cab and the al mounting points. There wasn't that much noise really, but there was a high pitched whine that I thought could get annoying. Doubt it would have been heard much when running anyway. I just decided against that tank, I hate in cab tanks, and I had a Suburban tank I wasn't using.
That tank is still available, if interested PM me. |

Re: Drop in fuel pump for tank in cab?
Bed fill on the Boyd is below bed surface... Guys use one board that hinges to expose the fuel filler otherwise hidden
