Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I've been finding faux-tina trucks and then changing their colors to blue - just for fun.
I really like this one:

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I kinda wonder if the misalignment of the bed and fenders to the cab is deliberate. It seems to add a little character.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
A guy in our local C/10 club sanded off the black primer on his truck and found this. So he clearcoated it and is running the truck like this.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
The problem with most faux-patina jobs is that it is over done.
Typically paint does not get rubbed off all over nor does ir rust all over. Paint get rubbed off where hands and "loads" would touch and it rusts where the sun attacks and wet dirt or salt cakes. These are all great works of art but you almost always can tell natural from faux patina.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
No offense to Coach's truck, I love it and think most others do to. There is a reason its perfect, its perfect because its real......
The title of the thread is faux-tina, meaning fake. This pretty much means we like patina, we like to party, we just didn't get lucky enough to find a truck that had real patina. I think everyone understands the natural patina process, its not a difficult concept to grasp. What is difficult is reproducing it. |

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Real Patina isn't something I want where I live.
I don't want my truck's metal exposed to wet. I really like the blue trucks where some black is showing through. Or the black trucks where some blue underneath is showing through. I don't like the patchy look of random sanded spots, but more of where it looks like some of the old paint is wearing through - like natural use wear, but the metal is still protected.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Awesome thread, just starting on my truck and I'll keep the original patina but I'm going to have to see about some faux matching on the bed sides as they are a little too patina'd.. Anyone in CA that does work of the quality of Jerome??

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
My truck has some great natural patina that I would like to preserve and maybe even enhance a little. Some of the faux paints on here are really well done and I like them. Someone above noted that what makes a natural patina appealing is some of the underlying rust and imperfections. I personally do not care for a patina paint job that is way too shiny. The appeal for me is a somewhat muted or dulled down paint that lends some 'aged character' to the truck. If you want shiny, just paint it and leave it alone.
