Adding Cruise Control to '87 R10

I have an '87 R10 that I would like to add cruise control to. I have searched through the board for a list of components that would be needed with no luck. I have also seen where some have added aftermarket units but not really elaborated as to how well they work or how much trouble it is to add them.

Is it worth trying to add all the factory pieces? If so, what would I need? If not, what unit is with looking in to for the '87?

Thanks

Cruise III is extremely complex and not terribly reliable.
Rostra makes a pretty decent unit or you could use the T400 CK truck cruise control.

I suspect he is referring to the GMT400, which is the generation of trucks that came after the squarebodies (starting in 1988).

Re: Adding Cruise Control to '87 R10

I installed cruise on my '87 back when it was new.

I bought a service parts "kit" over the counter that had everything I needed. It's worked perfectly for these past 28 years.

I can take a look and see if the directions and parts list are still around here somewhere.

Will the Rostra run off the vss mounted to the speedo? I think it pulses 2002 pulses per mile.

Not hijack this thread by any means, but on the topic of cruise control, namely factory, is there anywhere you can still find a new vacuum diaphragm deal for the carbureter linkage?
