stock fuel fullers and many aftermarket ones can't handle the full flow of a modern gas pump on high, it kicks back way too easy. Happens unless you have that little flapper and the separate vent tube, and a long filler neck...don't get discouraged!

Haha, no worries. Yeah you're right. I have been living with it that long. It was mostly just my local pump it turned out. Most other pumps will let me fill faster so I've only had one other small spill. I have two 1/2" vents and a 30" filler, it's just that the filler goes nearly horizontal for a bit and the high flow pumps can overwhelm it. When I raise my bed floor a couple inches that should put a nice angle on it and cure it I think.

It's amazing how small many OE fillers are. I have taken some out that were under an inch ID.

Throttle cable is done. I used some fancy teflon lined and coated mtn bike brake cable. It was $28 shipped, enough for 3 or 4 vehicles. I cut off the part of the stock throttle pedal that sticks into the engine bay and put a 3/8" clamp collar on it. On the inside I welded on a short tube with a threaded insert in the end to accept a ball and socket cable end from a carb. Then I made a stainless plate to cover an existing hole in the firewall and aim the cable housing in the right spot.

I used a Lokar shifter on the 4L80E. It was pretty nice to be able to install it completely from the top.

I also built a dual 2.5" to single 3" exhaust. I fit a massive straight through Magnaflow under the bed and one small one on the right side of the Y. It's really quiet, like a stock truck. Quieter than I wanted but I'll live with it for a while and see if the mufflers break in a little. I welded in a 4" ID ring for the exhaust to go through the crossmember. It had been hacked up before I got the truck so I didn't feel bad making a crude driveshaft hoop that goes to the bottom of the cab floor.

First test drive...tuning the transmission and fueling a little. It runs just like stock. I had to wait for my girlfriend to come back and help me with the hood but I got about ten miles on it with no issues, which made for a nice relaxing Saturday.

I looked back thru the thread but I didn't see where you mounted your coils?

They are on stainless brackets on the inner fenders. Yesterday I made water/impact resistant covers for them out of soft plastic ice buckets. The coil posts are about 1/2" behind the lower edge of the inner fender so there is a slot about 1" x 10" that is open to the engine bay for air flow and plug wires but the wheel side is completely blocked off. I plan on grinding the nubs off the valve covers and welding the holes shut so I can paint them and the intake tube to match.

Nice truck!!! Off the wall question : How was the old gas tank mounte in the bed? Was it it just bolted to the bed wood ?

The coil covers work! We had a huge rain storm and I had to ford some 4-6" deep puddles, a couple at speed and the coils stayed nice and dry. I'm less nervous about the mounting spot now once we get to winter and it's packed with salty slush and snow.

Yes, the original steel tank was just bolted to through the wood. The water trapped under it rotted one corner of the bed out too. I would say that the tank would likely break free in a bad accident.

I sold it this fall. I couldn't muster the interest in repairing the sheet metal and finishing all the cosmetics. On to the next one!
