I scored a freebie!
Wife's uncle gave me a 68 short step. Way rough, I think the driver's door is good, and I plan on cutting patch panels out of the bedsides.
Question....can I salvage the windshield? It has no cracks and mine is pretty bad. How do I tell a 3 speed tranny from a 4 speed? Thanks, Krue

Yes you can salvage the wind shield. Just cut it out with a piece of wire.
If it is a 4 speed the tranny will have 3 levers if it is a 3 speed it will have 2 levers. |

If you dont need the windshield rubber, just take a box cutter to the windshield rubber. That should take care of that.

if its a 3 speed, it should be on the column and have the H pattern. if its a 4 speed it should be the H with an extra spot for reverse. is that what you meant by levers? if the tranny is out, the 4 speed's shift lever will stick straight out of the top, the 3 speed will have a linkage hooking it to the column.

67fleetsidedream is also talking about a car 4 speed and a (car/truck) 3 speed (if i am correct, ASSUMING here). the 4 speed will have 2 larger levers sticking out of the side and a smaller one more rearward. the 4 speeds that came in these trucks are top loaders and the shifter comes through the top and only the shifter sticks out. a taller shorter trans then a 3 speed or car 4 speed, thats if my memory serves me correct. i hope this helps

I am thinking it is a 3 speed with floor shifter.
What is the best way to store a windshield?

I wrapped my windshield in a blanket and put it on a piece of plywood above the rafters in the garage.
