Drop Spindle....?
I am between the LMC drop spindle and the CPP modular drop spindle,
The LMC is 259$ 2.5 inch drop Uses stock joints and tierod One piece design where caliper bolts Claims to narrow track width 3/4" each side? The CPP #CP30106-4 is 299$ 2 inch drop Uses stock joints and tierod Claim to narrow the track width at least 1 1/8" between both sides Uses a bracket to mount brakes that cost 75$ additionally... If anyone has used the LMC spindle and can confirm that it actually does provide the additional tire clearance please comment because it seems to be the better deal especially when I have a gift card to Lmc but just not sure if I can trust there measurements bc I haven't been able to speak to anyone with them that can actually talk about there spindles...

Re: Drop Spindle....?
No one,... not even CPP has proven EXACTLY how much their spindles move in and compared to what?
I still challenge any suspension company to put the numbers down with associated pics to prove it. Their Drop spindles compared to what? 1) Drum brake spindles? 2) 71-87 disc brake spindles? 3) other brands of drop spindles? They need to: 1) Make a jig 2) install each different version of spindle 3) Measure to the "wheel mounting surface" If they would do that,... then you would know. I still say,... install your suspension,... and then install wheels and tire to fit. Not the other way around. Drop springs also affect these numbers, because they change the angle of the lower a-arm, thus pushing the spindle out as the spring gets shorter.

Re: Drop Spindle....?
I believe your right. Just too hard to try and do wheel and tire before suspension is complete. This is my first big project, and I'm kind of learning as I go.
I have a Porterbuilt front dropmember so track width will be narrowed an inch and a half each side anyways but I'm planning on running the dodge steel 20's I bought a while back with those ****ty adapters and I thought if I could get a narrowed spindle as well it would ensure that I could lay out on those wheels and adapters...

Re: Drop Spindle....?
You can save real money by ordering from Summit. Free shipping. They have CPP spindles for 230 and DJM for the same price. That's to your door price. LMC is gonna really whack you with shipping charges on top of their price.
Personally I'd run the DJM because they are a 3 inch drop rather than 2.5. I have them on my truck and like them.

Right now all I just have a set of Belltech 73-87 drop spindles. I have Light Duty and HD rotors also. We need to put an end to all the "supposed" facts .

Re: Drop Spindle....?
Any updates?
. I think also read somewhere that the latest modular spindles - the ones they call "New and Improved" - now have the caliper mount cast in. Is is it true we don't need to buy the caliper mounting bracket anymore?

Re: Drop Spindle....?
The Modular are only a 2" drop.
2.5" drop are the regular cpp spindles that have the caliper ears cast in.

Re: Drop Spindle....?
Not sure if this helps but just ordered these about 2 weeks ago and installed them with no issues other than having to clearance the lower a arm for the 15x10 wheels to fit back on. They were around 170.00.

Re: Drop Spindle....?
More confused now. Do you need to buy seperate caliper brackets for the DJM spindles?

Should be the standard spindle design. Only the CPP modular spindles use a separate caliper bracket.

Re: Drop Spindle....?
Yes they had those for the 1 1/4 hd rotors.
If I would have known when I bought them that I could covert my brakes to the bigger size so easily I would have bought them because I replaced everything spindles calipers rotors and shoes. didnt know all that was required to just buy the new 1.25" parts. And swap the mc to the hd version. Would have worked better with my rear disc conversion i think. |
