1st time LS swapper
Ok so I have a '72 Chevy K/20 longbed 4x4. I am looking to put a 6.0 truck motor with a 4L80. For now I just want to basically keep the motor stock, I just want to do the swap as cheap as I can now then make upgrades later.
Since this is the first time I have ever done this, I was wondering if there is a good place to start to get some basic info on how to do an ls swap? Anything you can recommend would be great, a thread on this forum, a link to a site, a book on doing a swap. Again for now I am just doin a basic swap any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: 1st time LS swapper
We put the stickies at the top of the ls forum for just this reason.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=456787 That, the "what ya got" thread for pictures/ideas, are great places to start. Once you've familiariazed yourself with the basics, then take a look through the builds or search for some more specifics. Once you have a simple idea of the "what", getting the "how" isn't bad.

Re: 1st time LS swapper
Im kinda in the same boat. It would be cool if someone broke each part of the install down. Like fuel system: do this and this etc, order this.

Re: 1st time LS swapper
This has to be one of the most asked but most difficult questions to answer. There are so many different options that it would be difficult for someone to give you the breakdown. They could give you their breakdown of how they did it, but its not going to be the only way. Spend some time looking through the threads on this forum and see what you like best and what you have the time/money for. Most of all have fun doing the project and dont give up, they are a blast to drive and you will not regret putting an LS into your truck!

Re: 1st time LS swapper
Ok so I have a somewhat interesting question. I know that the LS2 is the 6.0 and I found an LS2 controller kit from Chevrolet performance. Now will that same controller kit work on the 6.0 truck engines? It says use for 58x engines only what does that mean?

Re: 1st time LS swapper
There are two different types of Reluctor wheels, for the GenIII and GenIV motors respectively.
Because of the architecture of the GenIV computer, some folks choose to control GenIV engines with a GENIII ECM and either swap the reluctor, or use the adapter-thingy that allows the signals to work with each other effectively. You don't need that for a regular swap; you can just use the regular GenIII or GenIV ecm setups...depending on which engine you source. There are plenty of members here with GenIII swapped trucks, and a few others with GenIV swaps using the stock ecm's.
