I'm using the original harness that came with the engine. I added a current performance relay/fuse block.

Take a look Hart_Rod....

This is what I had in my Current Performance fuse/relay block. I'm sure I am the culprit, I remember switching some wires up in here because the pump wasnt "prime'ing" for those two seconds.

Tested the pumps amperage and I got a 8.40-8.65 reading....any thoughts?

The ~8.5 amps is reasonable for your fuel pump. There's nothing to worry about there. I still think your problem was just a bad connector at the sending unit bulkhead. Just solder the connections as discussed earlier and you should be good to go.
