Being the tallest of 6 kids at 5'-7" isn't much to brag about but at least I am the tallest! I'd like to raise the seat in my '54 Chevy truck about an inch. What is the simplest and least expensive way to go about that?

Square tubing or even C channel tubing is a great idea. Tractor supply, big box home improvement stores, and even local hardware stores carry this. The problem is usually the seat springs / suspension though. Have you considered a different seat from a later vehicle?

1project2many makes a good point that we missed or forgot. What is the condition of the seat cushion it's self? If the springs are broken down or the padding is packed down you may be loosing what height you need right there.

The seat is fine. Even if it wasn't can't afford to replace it. I'll just raise it - I hope.

I thought about suggesting you go to Goodwill and pick up one of those stadium cushions that they always seem to have for a buck or so with some team's name on them.

but all jokes aside if you to raise the seat do it under where the cushion mounts to the frame with a few washers not where the frame meets the floor i think that will cause floor to weaken

AWESUM!!! Put some 1" square tube under the seat today. It works perfectly and it's just the right height. Thought it might me too tall but it's not. Thanks guys for the fun and the info.

when i was a bus mechanic we had one driver that was so short...
we bolted a 2x4 block to all 3 pedals with a stock rubber on top

just an idea if your having problems reaching the pedals too

seriously though... glad it worked out for you
it's easier to fix too short than too tall

I had a friend who was a dwarf in Texas who drove a Vega with thick blocks on the pedals and a pad behind him on the seat. He didn't seem to have any trouble driving it though.

I have a friend who is 6'8' who drove an early 60's Ranchero in trade school in 1966 that he had unbolted the seat and moved it back as far as it would go and bolted it back.

that makes me think of bubba smith as hightower in police academy (if your under 40, forget it)
or schwarzenegger as john matrix in commando when he tears the back seat out (again with the 40 yr old thing)

my son... who's 6'7'' and drove a 80s mazda 323 2 door for a while, we ''adjusted'' the seat to where it went back against the rear seat
he drives an 68 elco when he gets in his right foot goes over the steering wheel

My Company has a VW Jetta that is a back up vehicle for all the salesman and when i sit in it i Look out the Left passengers window, all my peers were laughing at me and they made me go threw a drive threw and order and pay using the back window, we were all

Years ago I had a mate who was about 6 foot 6inches and he came around
to show off his new car. A Honda Scamp! after he unfolded himself out of it I questioned his driving position. "Mods" he said. He'd removed the drivers seat and was driving from the rear seat!

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
