Oil pan cover plate

I just received my new engine and transmission, and have a question.
It's a 5.3 E-Rod connect and cruise package. It has the truck oil pan.

On the bottom of the front part of the aluminum oil pan there
is a thin sheet metal cover plate held on with some small bolts.

What is that cover plate for?

Thanks

Re: Oil pan cover plate

Never seen that before, but it must be some kind of a heat shield from a certain application. Its odd that the part number on it is for a truck oil pan.

Re: Oil pan cover plate

the E-Rod package comes with that pan.
I'm going to keep it. It will hang a little low
in my 53 pickup, but will still end up with about
7 inches of ground clearance.

I'm planning a tubular skid plate for it.

The bolt pattern on that thin plate is rather odd.

It almost begs to be removed just to see what
is behind it!

like sound deadener for doors
