R10???? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I got my insurance papers for my 87 Silverado, it was listed as a Chevrolet R10, and I 've never heard of the R designation until now. I don't know where I've been, but, I always thought 2wd pickups were C's, 4wd K's, vans P's. So I do a search on the net and find out that an 87 1/2t, 2wd is an R10 but a 86 1/2t, 2wd is a C10.

Is this correct? I thought 81-87 had the same body style. What years were C's and what years are R's and when did they go to 1500?

Thanks in advance. Oh, do the letters C, K, R stand for anything or are they just random letters that chevy used?

GM renamed the old body style from C/K to R/V in order to pave way for the new body style being developed. This affected 1987 C/K pick-ups, 1988-1991 Blazers and Suburbans, and 1988-1991 Crewcabs/one-tons. The bodystyle, as well as nearly everything else, stayed the same.

The blazer on my signature is actually a V-10, but the badges on the body show a K1500. Imagine that LMAO.

RockHQ, do your badges actually say K1500? most of them i've seen just say 1500.
