in cab replacement tank doesn'the fit

I purchased a replacement for our in-cab fuel tank from LMC. The tank is listed as a direct replacement to the factory tank but it doesn't fit. If I set it so the brackets and fuel line all line up the filler neck is too far up and back. If I line up the filler neck, the brackets and fuel line are way off and the tank is too far towards the driver side. Turns out that our tank we are replacement is an optional over sized tank which I can not find a replacement.

Has anyone else had to deal with this? If you stuck with the replacement tanks from LMC (and others), how did you do the install?

I have prototyped an adapter out of PVC that would allow me to install the tank in the original brackets and still line up the filter but before I go to the trouble of making a steel one I want to make sure I wasn't missing some easier solution.

The solution may be to find a set of stock brackets for the tank you have.

Yes, I thought about that or just moving over the brackets that I currently have. If I do that I think the tank will fit way to close to the driver side of the cab. I think I need to search for some good pictures that show the in cab tank installed. Its been hard to find as a lot of people seem to go for the under the bed tanks instead of keeping it in the cab.

if i could offer advice easier to install filler neck before you get the tank tight in the mounting straps

First, Softpatch was absolutely correct: it's def. easier to line up filler neck first and make other hookups fit by adaptation. Nothing dictates that (1)straps must go into the flat indentations around the tank or (2)tank must sit symmetrically inside the cab. Next, hoses are easy to adapt using a tubing bender and fittings. Finally, sender wire can easily be spliced: remember to use heat shrink--setting it with a heat gun--not an open flame.

Hope this helps. BTW: keep in mind all the fitting/cutting/measuring/adapting you are saving by going back into cab with your tank!
