Chevy 350/700r4 to a LS 5.3/4L60E swap ???
Hello
I'm getting ready to go from a 350/700r4 to a 5.3/4L60E in the near future so my question is being that the 700r4 & 4L60E are almost the same thing other than the electronics will I have to modify my driveshaft in any way? This is going to be done on a 1969 SWB fleetside & it will be my first swap. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you |

Well, I would say yes & no. It's depends where the drive train will sit. I have no experience but there is a vendor that sells slider mounts. To ensure that no mods will be needed to your driveshaft, the 4l60e & driveshaft must sit in the exact location as the 700r4 & drive shaft. Once the 4l60e, driveshaft are in place, your lm7(5.3) can be mounted to the tranny using the slider engine mounts. My preference is to sit the engine in the engine bay first, see where it sits in relation to the radiator. Then you must decide if your gonna use electric fans or the current clutch fan clutch fans needs more space than electric fans. A drive shaft is a minor detail. I like my engines to sit forward, with space in the back to get to the oil pressure sending unit, camshaft sensor, grounds, or anything else that may need my attention. Again this is my preference. I'm on the other side regarding where the engine should sit. I know it doesn't do that much to weight distribution, but I like putting the engine as far back as possible to keep weight back. Modern engines are pretty reliable, and if you do need to get to a sensor it isn't too hard to move the engine forward on one of these.
I can't say for sure, but I don't see why you couldn't keep your driveshaft. It could probably use some new U joints if you haven't replaced them any time recently.

Thx guy's for looking & for your time really do appreciate it.
& yeah I am willing to go any way I need to go in regards to clutch fan /electric fans like yall said depending on the best location of the motor. I'm going to use the new CPP ls swap kit,On the new kit they use dirty dingo sliders so I can easily move the motor front or back & yes every thing that I can think of while I have it off will be replaced while it's off I'm even replacing the blower motor while I have the fenders off. My main concern is just being able to use my original driveshaft. |
