Cheapest I6 TOTT Swap
Well my 70 Burb has a TOTT and even tho it runs good, I want it to be an automatic. I heard it's just easier to do a full V8 auto trans swap rather than trying to match up a trans with the I6. Does this swap take any modification? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cheapest I6 TOTT Swap
As far as I recall bell housing on the tott is the same as the auto bell housing. You may need different radiator (or add external cooler) and probably different transmission cross member and driveshaft length.

Re: Cheapest I6 TOTT Swap
You will have to get an auto crossmember, new radiator or external cooler and lines, may have to adjust the drive shaft, but the 3spd and the TH350 have the same yoke, 400 is different. Column swap is easy, one for one, you just need the linkages. Dont forget to calibrate the speedo....and the vaccum line for the modulator with parts.

Re: Cheapest I6 TOTT Swap
OK let me make sure I'm following correctly. So if I make these changes I will be able to retain the I6 or are these changes with the engine swap as well?

Re: Cheapest I6 TOTT Swap
That's correct. No need to change engine unless of course you wanted to.

Re: Cheapest I6 TOTT Swap
Due some research on them. Seems to me I have seen a couple threads on here about them being of Chinese manufacture and failing. There are several ( I think) still on the parts board for sale and Kevs Classics (board member) restores them as well as a couple others. Ididit and Flaming river columns have had good reviews as well IIRC
A quick way to find what might be on the parts board is to do a google search from top of this page in the gray box. Type in tilt column for sale and make sure you change it from WEB to 67-72chevytrucks.com before hitting search. It will bring up a lot of hits but keep in mind they may not all be for just your application.
