1/2 ton to 3/4 ton running gear
I need advice on choosing the right year of 3 / 4 ton running gear, to put under my '72 short box. I want a relatively easy transition. Plus I am looking to disc brake the rear! Looking to run the new 37's or old school 38's. Budget is not Substantial!

Either bolt-in a 67-72 HO52 or Dana60, or a 14-bolt just needs reconfigured mounts

Re: 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton running gear
Find a 73 to 87 3/4 ton truck and pull the axles. The front will bolt right in. Reposition the rear axle spring perches and it will bolt in. You'll have to upgrade the rear axle to run larger ujoints or they also make a conversion ujoint but it won't be as strong. You'll have to adjust the shock mounts too.
but the axles should be cheap. I wouldn't pay more than 500 for a set in good condition.

Re: 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton running gear
With 38s you want 1 ton axles,The 3/4 ton will break over time if you push it hard enough.
